free hot water van......
« on: February 01, 2012, 09:52:40 am »
how feasible would it be to fit one of these into a tank to keep your water warm
say heat up at night with wind power, then stick a little solar panel on van to keep trickle top up

or am i just getting as crazy as others  ;D

The ideas good - but I don't think 600w would do very much to a big tank of water.

I checked on my weather station and it went down to -2.5 deg here last night - but with very little wind.

Glad I had my immersion heated plugged in  - No frost on the van, warm inside and warm water for most of the day.

no chance at all.

that says 600watts, which is about £600 worth of solar panels.  just noticed its 24v so 2x the solar.
or a £300/£400 windturbine at good wind speeds (30-40mph)

if you want to go with a heater it will have to be mains wired.

Most really cold weather is associated with high pressure systems, which means low wind speeds, so when you really need the heat conditions will not be suitable.

Where did you buy your immersion heater please?

Immersion heaters are about £20 tops at toolstation or screw fix. - 3kw jobbie.
It's a game of three halves!

got mine from toolstation - and don't forget the mechanical flange to fit the IH to your tank
