Apparently when the Costa Concordia went down Yell Salesmen were seen leaping over the side like rats. There was some concern as sharks were seen in the area but luckily the Yell reps couldn't catch them.

Hope your meeting goes well.  :D

It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Paul, no :)  a quarter page is a quarter page, doesn't matter how big the page is :)

Adam, each area's book has slightly different prices.  Can you access this page?

http://rates.yelldirect.com/showRates.aspx?directory=5242&edition=74140&dt=1&action=3

Not sure if you need to be logged in to the site to view it.  here's a screen grab:

I would look at this year's book and judge for yourself what is going to stand out more - most companies run the same ad, or same sized ad, year after year.  Basically the more there are, the more you have to stand out.  Don't take any crap about colour being better.  Monochrome (black on yellow) with LOADS of reverse copy stands out better than finely detailed colour artwork, in my opinion.  Obviously you get more page space for your money with monochrome.

I think with yell.com again it's down to how many competitors are coming up on the search result for your area.. just had a look... 10 pages!  Only a sponsored listing is going to guarantee being in the top three (order will rotate).  Next one down will keep you near the top but anything after... who looks all the way to the end of page 2 then on to page, when browsing yell.com looking for a service?  Not many....

I wouldn't bother with it, just try to get the biggest book ad for your money, maybe do yell.com next year.

What are members opinions and views on what has taken over from
Yell.com and YP from an advertising and income revenue these days?
Up to about 5 or 6 years ago I found YP just on it`s own was an
Invaluable form of advertising. The last 2 years has been a complete
Waste of money. :'( :'(

well price was roughly £300+vat for the year for each heavy weight category on yell.com and £800 for the book with intro discounts being £900 so originally £1700 + vat.

book isn't out until august so no need to sign up to that now, and thinking over the yell.com listing. it's an ok price but as many have said it doesn't return much. they showed approx 40 searches a month per town but i do wonder how many are when the sales rep gets you to actually search, and peopel like me who's looking what compeittion is on yell. how many of that 40 are real paying customers, and then i'm competing again'st another 10-15 companies on the heavy weight listing any way.

undecided at the moment

Adam,
Cut the paper ad down to £400 and dump yell then spend what you've saved on internet advertising ;)

Adam,

Forget YP - use funds for website and to manage SEO
