is my pump busted? 1 year old airflex
« on: January 27, 2012, 11:57:53 pm »
got my airflex tubro in November 10 so had it just over 1 year now and it's playing up. vac2 has gone in that it trips the electrics when vac2 button is switched on, which i guess is my fault though i am vey very careful trying to ensure no water gets in there is no way for to tell why it's gone

trouble is now the pump seems to be failing. when preparing the machine it works fine and when connected the psi increases all ok, but then when using it just sprays for 1 second then stops, then sprays then stops like a heart beat almost making it almost useless.

anyone know what the issue could be and what sort of warranty you get with the pumps from cleansmart? i appreciate the vac may have sucked up water but i can't see what would have gone wrong in a years of use to make the pump go like this.

Firstly, you only get a years warranty.

Sounds like a new vac 2 is required, my vac 3 went after 15 months.

May sound like a stupid question but have you cleaned the filter on the end of the inlet pipe in your solution tank ? If that's even partially blocked it will force the pump to work erratically.

I have had vac 1 and 3 go in just over a year with not heavy usage. When I had the first vac changed Cleansmart instructed the service company to make an update to the machine. They cut to extra vents into the bottom of the body work. To stop the vacs over heating.

I know the vacs are not good with moisture so if you keep it in the van over night or in a cold damp store this with cause the vacs to trip out over time.

As mentioned above .... lack of intake venting ,  excessive internal heat could be a factor ...
In this Sandia /Alltec  the silver duct is attached to the top of the motor and vented to the bottom allowing the motor to breath cold air ....  you could do similar yourself with bits from your local plumbing/homestore ...  just clamp the flexible duct onto the top of the motor with a jubilee clip and vent to either the side of bottom of machine , cut neat hole with holesaw ...vent covers are available .

Isn't it odd that some machines, using the same motors, seem to go through motors more than others... ???

yeah i appreciate the vac's have many reasons to go so getting another isn't unexpected.

steve: the filter is checked regularly and never has anything worth mentioning on it. given i rarely use chemicals in the solution tank and when i do it's only ever their own acid rinse which is heavily diluted it's a shock that it's breaking. checking their website it says the pump has 3 years warranty and the pump head has 1 years. what's the difference?

I think the pump (if pumptec) is where the piston is that provides the pressure. The head of the pump is where the solution flows through and over time gets corroded.

Sounds like you may need to fit a new pump seal kit... Has frost got to the machine or something? I've seen it where a rubber 'o' ring has come loose and fouled one of the 1 way valves due to frost....

If you do take the pump head off, make a note of what goes where, they can be a bugger....

Sounds like the filter in solution tank could pressed up against the end of the hose.

The first thing that will go wrong with the pump is that it will leak on the floor when the seals have gone but will still opperate.

If you are getting pressure at the guage then it's a restriction or the wand filters could be dirty.

Why dont you just ring Cleansmart, Mat is very helpful and goes out of his way to try and fix things. i recently had to replace my pumphead and was talked through it, its easy to access and work on even changing motors takes minutes, any number of things could be wrong with it, until you speak to the people who know the machine your just go round in circles.
