Can anyone reccommend a lightweight pole for Wor Lass?
« on: December 12, 2005, 09:33:21 pm »
I'm looking for a lightweight pole Wor Lass can use to clean 1st floor windows with.

She's only eight-and-a-half stone in her socks and struggles with an 18 foot fibre-glass pole, though can still use one to clean our house with (I refuse to do my own windows now).

She's bored with squeegying and is keen to use a WFP, but I have my concerns that her lack of physical strength might pose a problem.  She's no 'puff' mind.  She runs marathons and last weekend represented East Wales in the Regional Welsh Cross Country Championships.  (I think this involves chasing sheep; but I'm not sure).

So, can anyone recommend a lightweight pole - easy to extend and retract - that will reach the average 1st floor window?  A 12 foot pole for example?

Ionics.
I've got a 12' pole, Tosh(One).
Nice and light.  3X4' extensions.  I use a 10" ionics brush.
I am by no means an expert.  I've been wfp as long as you.
No problems so far, with that one.  Easy peasy.  Get their price list, it gives you the weight.  I'm not promoting them as a company, just a good pole.

Hi Tosh

a 12 ft isnt bad but I sometimes find that I am having to work with the pole almost vertical at 12 ft. That extra couple of feet can make a big difference.

Alex at gardiner poles makes poles to order in the size you want and his prices are very good.

I would contact him and see what a "tailor made" pole would cost. Say a 15 ft 3 section..  that would do the job very well I reckon.  Worth a call I reckon. You never know unless you ask.

Contact details are there.

Yes good idea Andrew.
But, I have to say, as with everything,
the problem is too many choices these days

I find the 12' good for all your average economy 1st floor modern houses.  I wouldn't be without it.  But I have an 18' for bigger stuff.  Once extended, a lot heavier, even though claims of being light!
Check how high you want the little lady to work.  And get that price list from ionics before you buy.  Always best to get things in print.  Gives your mind time to absorb.  Be patient.

Hi Tosh

I don't know how tall the lovely Wor Lass is but I'm 5 ft 7 and a bit and for about 80% of jobs  the 12ft Ionics pole is fine. I've also got short arms and legs as I'm a true born Scots  (well almost).

We've now got to know which jobs I can't reach the tops of the windows with (the other 2 are way taller than me) and we've altered how we do that particuar job with no problem.

Before anyone says about is a 12ft pole all I can manage.................  ::)

My Personal reccomendtaion would be a 3 sections x 4 feet, this would be 12 foot in use but very short when folded up. We use these a lot, look on our site for our custom made sections.

12ft or 18ft hmmm.....try a lightweight residential from Streampole, the 12ft only weighs 1.5kg and is fairly rigid.

Thanks for your help guys.

I'll take a look at all the suggestions but I think the 12 foot Ionics is favourate.

Cheers.
