adverts in local paper
« on: December 13, 2005, 09:38:10 am »
Has anyone got any thoughts on this or experience. I placed an ad for 13 weeks run in mylocla paper, every saturday, didn't even get 1 phone call this week.
did I waste my money? We are the only cleaning service in the list, so I was hoping for at least 1 phone call.

What should I do?

Think about where you want your advert to appear in the paper, is it currently under a heading eg: cleaning services or is it in miscellaneous, if you were looking for a cleaning service where abouts in the paper would you turn to without having to trawl through it all?  A domestic cleaning ad can do quite well on the television pages as this is usually the page left open!

Has this ad run for the full 13 weeks?  I am surprised you have had no response, this type of advertising is usually pretty good for the domestic sector, but as Paul says maybe it's just the time of year.

I would give the paper a call and tell them you have had no response, let them know that you would be keen to try again but that you can't keep paying their price, also explain that if you could get this to work you would look at advertising with them on a longer term and possibly advertise in supplements, hopefully you will get a good discount.

If you do a good job at a fair price then word soon gets round.  I know it can be difficult to start with having to rely upon adverts in the local newspapers and flyer.

We now rely on word of mouth and do not advertise at all

hi all
It was my 1st week, 12 to go now.
Hopefully after xmas things will pick up. Its in the local services section under cleaning services, I'm the only one there doesn't say much just who we are what we do and how to contact us.
It's prob just me, its my birthday in 2 weeks and I'm getting pessimistic and grouchy :-)

1 week thats a bit keen  ;). You have only caught the attention of 1 group of customers at the mo (if any) "the desperate ones".

Everyone seems normal untill you get to know them!
