Nail polish
« on: November 25, 2011, 08:36:13 pm »
Got this email today.......

Hi there,

I have accidentally spilt bright RED (of all colours!) nail polish over brand new cream beige carpet, and what's worse it's my boss's flat that I'm staying in temporarily.
I have tried most of the internet solutions... blotting it out with acetone and non-acetone nail polish remover, tried shaving foam, window cleaner, cutting bits out and scrubbing with fairy liquid. But, it's still stained.
Do you have a (miracle) solution??!! And if so, how much it this likely to cost?

Without seeing it and what she has already done I am kinda thinking that there is no hope whatsoever.

Any ideas?

Tony

If it's beyond stain removal, re-tufting might be viable if the area isn't too big.  I'd doubt a transplant repair would be suitable, it's bound to be in the middle of a room and would stick out a mile, probably not be too durable either.

If it's not very close by to go and see, get her to send you a photo

Thanks Jim

Will see if I can arrange to go round, even its only for the amusement factor, its amazing what they will try before realising that they have made a complete pigs bum of it.

Dave, with respect, we don't know if it's the size of a 5p piece or a dinner plate.  Obviously the latter is more likely if it's got so bad they had to get the yellow pages out... but no harm in finding out first.  Tony might be passing up the opportunity of gaining a customer (or two) for life here.  Even if he doesn't even attempt it, at least he can give some advice and a report for the insurance.

Trouble is in these cases you don't know what someone's version of a problem is.  Some people walk past a dirty great stain on their carpet without even noticing it, whilst others go schizoid at a tiny little black mark you'd need a magnifying glass to see properly!

She's also cut it, scrubbed it and used everything under the kitchen sink on it. Boy is she in the sheet.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

I have a very high success rate with nail polish.

It's never a cheap solution and you've got to work at keeping the client on board as my typical bill for nail polish removal can be anywhere between £70 and £200+vat. As Jim says it does depend upon the size of the problem, the quality and expensiveness of the carpet..... and the depth of the pocket of the client!

But sometimes you do just have to walk.
