strange mark on carpet
« on: October 24, 2011, 07:15:39 pm »
I did a commercial office carpet last week but a strange thin dark line has appeared on the 1 side of the room. It is a perfect half circle shape and about 5 feet long. Against the wall, im on my phone here so cant get a picture up. Anyone got any ideas?? Im puzzled as it wasnt noticed by the client or me before cleaning. Maybe it was there just masked by dirt but this section was not very dirty to begin with.

Sounds like someone had something leaking long time ago buy you cleaning may have caused wicking back. Have you tested what the stain is?

This can be a common carpet fault. Although its usually parallel straight black lines. As the carpet goes
through the mill black oil sometimes leaks on to the carpet and only wicks up when protected or cleaned.
Its definitely not your fault. An independent assessor would clarify.

Is there any way of rectifying this do you think?

If it's oil from the weaving looms I've seen this being dealt with by quality control. As carpets come off the looms, any oil ( usually little spots ) is treated by dipping a brush in solvent. shaking off excess and flicking at the offending spot to break it up and scatter it.

Not very scientific but effective !

Most instances I know of have been replacement, you could try solvent/ citrus gel on a rag to see
if it comes of. I would be inclined to mention its a manufacturing fault and refer them to their
supplier.
