To clean the floor you would be best to sweep it first with a dust control mop then dry vac it with a brush head.

If you can get a rotowash, multiwash style of machine or scrubber dryer this will be the most efficient way to remove all the dust.

You could be mopping it for ever and still have loads of streaks.

Find out if the floor is oiled or lacquered finish. If its oiled dont use hard surface cleaners or alkaline detergent as it will remove the oil.  Ensure you get an appropriate cleaner like Bona Soap (Carls Cleaner) or equivalent.

DONT USE LEMON FLOOR CLEANER!!!

Sorry for shouting. This stuff leaves a sticky residue.

Fine if you are going to buff it all off afterwards.
I spend my life fixing floors that have been cleaned with Lemon/Pine Cleaners.

I personally would use Chemspec Neutral Floor cleaner.

It has a dry residue and if over diluted just leaves a little dust and is very economical in use.

Hi,
As csuk says, try & get a scrubber drier, if not try & get a wet vac. Dry vac first, then mop the floor (pretty wet) & use wet vac, dont let it sit long incase seal isnt too great on floor. Just do this a few times to clear dust. For shelving, its best with dry duster first then damp wipe & buff off with micro fibre cloth. If there are plastic pricing strips on the front edges make sure these dont get wet & try to dry wipe off in one sweep or you will get static build up & it will attract the dust. Obviously do the shelving first lol,
Hope this helps,
Ron

the comment above about not using a lemon floor cleaner as it leaves streaks behind. Yes almost all floor cleaners will leave streaks behind but this is usually a case where the cleaner has been using the glug glug glug method of adding the cleaner to the mop bucket.  When this happens the water evaporates away leaving the cleaning fluid behind which is the sticky mess and that is when the customer says you have not washed the floor.

We had this problem with new cleaners coming on board seeing the floor was in a messy state and would add twice our recommended measure to deal with it. Then when it feels sticky they wash it again adding even more cleaner and the problem gets even worse. The first time this happened they were shocked and almost argued with me when I said wash the bucket and mop out with plain water and then wash again without any cleaner and it worked.  i now use this illustration with every training induction session.

The other thing we did was to change our supplier to http://cleancarescotland.com/chemicals and the problem no longer exists anywhere across our contracts.
