Hi All,

Does anyone else find Gardiners postage costs expensive?

I was going to order a few hozelock connectors plus a couple of plastic hose reducers and delivery was going to cost £7.49 

I haven't ordered them yet because the postage cost has put me off!

i have put off buying thing from them because of the postage charges, the item i wanted was £4 at the time.

If your order is under £10 postage is only £2 i believe...

they use a delivery company, who has  a standard charge i think,  but they can send by royal mail, which is cheaper

It's quality of service. I've always had my items "next day" with NO exceptions from Gardiners. That's from Cornwall to Scotland! It might seem a tad expensive but the service is second to none!

Just recently I've ordered two items not related to window cleaning. First, a part for a Karcher pressure washer, about the size of a Hoselock connector, cost £2 postage & took a week to come!!

Second, some dust bags for a Nilfisk vacuum from argos online, free delivery & also took 1 week to arrive! :

Because of personal time schedules I would have paid £7 both times for them to arrive next day!

If your order is under £10 postage is only £2 i believe...

As above you have options for royal mail if under £10:00 ,  otherwise 24hr courier delivery  if ordered before 2pm  which is what you expect if you want your ASAP .  MIKE

they want to think of the customer stick them in a large envelope ..bet that would be less than have the price . pro is they want profit on post as well ? i think they call it greed

I answered this just a few days ago on another Forum:

We work our postage system on a three-tier arrangement within the UK.
Up to £10 in value we will send these items by Royal Mail first class for £2. This £2 charge covers the cost of actual postage and the Jiffy bag.
Over £10 in value we send all items via FedEx next-day insured courier service for £7.75. This charge covers the actual cost of courier charge and the cardboard box, and packaging materials to safely send the item.
Over £45 in value and we do not make a charge for postage as a thank you for spending so much. We still send them via FedEx next-day courier with full insurance.

For goods ordered in value between £10.01 and £45.00 you can contact the office and ask for them to be sent via Royal Mail and you will only be charged the actual Royal Mail First Class cost - although this can sometimes be quite expensive as some of the items that fall into this price category are either very heavy or bulky and can actually cost more (such as a £45 roll of Microbore or a £16 bottle of TFR). The downside of this is that there is no guaranteed delivery time, no signed for delivery and also not the same level of insurance. Whilst Royal Mail is very useful it does not have the same insurance guarantees and if the item goes missing it is up to the client to request a proof of posting from us and then after the 15 working day wait until you can claim, they will then sometimes refund you the value of the goods - this is only up to £22 though. In the meantime you will have to buy a second set of whatever the parts were in order to have what you want. With FedEx if the item is damaged or lost we can make the claim for you immediately and will send out replacements straight away.

If in doubt please give the Office a ring and they will try and help you get the best postage method - something the website cannot always do.

Unfortunately the website software only works on value of order not size/weight of item. In your case if you were happy with Royal Mail it would be worth ringing the Office to get them to send via Royal Mail instead of FedEx.

I don't think the cost of postage is unreasonable when you factor in having to pay staff for time spent on getting your delivery out.

Most on here are probably raking in more than £30 per hour, so say an equivelant of 15 mins of your time to pay someone else to get your order dispatched and that also covers the actual carriage as well.

It's just like when you charge say 15quid for a house and the custy says "how much?"they have no idea how much it costs to run a window cleaning business.

Everyone has to make money.stop moaning and being a skinflint!!y

The Scottish Highlands and Islands are not covered under the Free postage. The best thing to do is to ring the office and ask them to get the best possible price for this for you.
