I caame out of the army into the miners strike. It started at Collingwood priory, three miles from where I grew up. That was a tough old time and I felt sorry for the the guys on the picket line, getting soup hand outs whilst Arthur got his pay packet every week!!!!
I don't honestly know what I would have done if I had had a family. would hope that I would have stood side by side but I would have also wanted to feed my family. I am sure they were difficult decisions by those that went back to work. There are still families that wont speak to other families because of what went on in the strike.
They were never going to beat Maggie and I'll bet Scargill was in her back pocket!!!
