Don't it make you smile
« on: November 02, 2005, 03:47:39 pm »
There you are, up a ladder, cloths etc in pouches, washing a window and someone calls out "excuse me are you a window cleaner". It's very difficult not to be sarcastic/rude or just downright jokey to come out with a suitable answer.
This happened to me this morning, I got a new account easy peasy, next door to where I was working.
Great, it means I can think about ditching a lower paying, difficult to do job now.

It does!

I have often thought about a witty yet non-offensive response to this regular question but cant think of one.  The best I can come up with is 'did you know the combustion cycle is due to crash on the left this street'. To which they look really worried because I am either a) completely mad or B)knowledgable about something important that is going happen....I makes me laugh and then they laugh.  Always breaks the ice!

I smile broadly and say "Only on (whatever day it is), the rest of the week I'm a Rocket Scientist!"
It's a game of three halves!

why not try the politically correct approach and say " actually love/mate, i'm a glazing enhancement specialist". hopefully that should make them laugh or completely confuse the ass off the dipstick
