Not as much of a plonker as you would have been if you had bought another engine..

Just out of curiosity, what effect did descaling have on the engine??

After my conversation with Richie I explained that petrol was blowing out the top, he rightly said this could be due to water backing up, and it was!

The engine had no power, sounded like a bag of bolts and gave out several loud back fires. It was more the noise of the engine that made me think I had killed it.

derek west

As it's an air cooled engine and the petrol sytem is in no way conected to the water system, how does a blockage caused by scale lead to petrol blowing out of the carb or even affecting engine performance?

Dave I guess once the water flow is restricted then the engine struggles.

Dave I guess once the water flow is restricted then the engine struggles.

I still don't get it though.
The pump would struggle, yes,  but it has a built in bypass to prevent a too high build up of pressure.
What about when you lay down the wand or stop triggering, there no water flow then but it doesn't affect the engine.
If the problem has been cured simply by de scaling, then obviously that must be it, but seems a strange one to me.

Dave, think you answered your own question. The pump has a bypass. It was probably blocked with scale.
