Winter checks reminder
« on: August 10, 2011, 05:14:42 pm »
Thought I'd post some winter check reminders up   ::). I know its only August, but time flies by and before you know it ....... frost etc.  :o.
   So have you checked:
van heater, does it still work?  if immersion in tank, does it still function ok?
Is my tank/ shed/ garage insulated?  What about my R. O. system, can I make it detachable when ice comes? Can I box it with good insulation and good shed heater etc?
Best to get it sorted, after all, August has got to be one of the crappiest months of the year  ;D

if you can insulate round it, that will make a big difference in winter time. You can use bagged lift insulation out thermal board  8×4 which you can cut to size

Take your reel, pump, flow controller, poles and put in the kitchen over night.

Transfer hose and pump live in the bath ;D
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

how does this sound?

thanks for the info so far!

;D sounds good to me, thats a good reminder about lagging pipes too. All you'll need in your van is a small heater with frost setting on it and that should sort your van out in heavy frost etc, the van cover would be good if heavy ice is expected though, good one. If we think ahead now, we can have everything sorted for winter rather than rushing at the last minute. :P. Cheers

where do you all get your heaters from? a caravan supply shop or just somewhere like b&q?

Argos, but don't wait till the big freeze because they will be sold out.

There are Frost protection controllers available, the kit comes with wiring to connect to a heater and sensor in the water.
it comes on at 2c and will run water through the system for 15 mins to help stop the system freezing up, Bit more pricey than a quilt but may be worth a thought
