Advice/opinions please
« on: July 13, 2011, 04:44:07 pm »
Hello and thanks in advance  for any replies.
Im currently employed driving a lorry bringing in 1850 after tax each month but six months ago got speaking to a friend who is window cleaner of 26 years, he gave me about 60 customers in and around chelmsford  which i have been doing since the trad way.
I find it hard with my full time job and would like to turn the window cleaning into full time because i like the idea of being my own boss and enjoy the job and 18 years behind a steering wheel is long enough,i am thinking about buying a van and fitting wfp system in it and trying to expand it asap i can pick up driving work via agency to help me along untill the time comes when i have enough customers to knock the driving on the head.
Would £6000 set me up van/equipment,also looking at ro van systems if i was to produce the water at home am i right in thinking that if i went to a company who fitted out the van they would leave the ro off and put just the di filter in the van then i would set the ro up at home with my static tank then pump water into the tank in the van when needed.
I have a bit more than the 6k budget but would like to keep some back so i could prehaps purchase some work if there is any out there also i no its a case of door knocking.
Does this idea sound feasible or im i mad giving up full time work.

Sorry about the grammar and thanks again for any advice.

Darren

hello mate..
Yes i reckon 6K would get you going..if you live in the chelmsford area then you will def need an r/o system. If you can produce the water at home say in a garage or something then all i would put in the van is the tank you could also have your di vessel set up with your static system at home and then just transfer your water each morning into your tank in the van. IMO its best to just have the very basics in your van, tank, poles, hose reel etc if you can produce the water at home as to keep the vehical weight down to a minimum. Things you need to think about is the van you want this will decide on what size tank you can have..there are many second hand vans and systems floating around for sale that could be another option to look at.

one bit of advice mate which i hope will help:

please remeber: it doesnt matter if you spent say 3 grand on a wfp system or just say £800.

as the results are the same = clean windows, happy customers and money in the bank!

diy system can be done very well and for a lot less then paying top prices at places like ionics, yes a place like ionics to provide top notch systems but as your just starting out - is it really needed?

even a simple backpack would get you started! say £130 for one.

one thing you should never go cheap on! - a pole! get a good pole, eg gardiners clx or slx oe the elite from water fed pole co.

Had a new fitted system in mind because i would not be to clued up on buying something and fitting it myself is it something that should be easy enough to do then.
.I had not thought about 2nd hand system that would leave me with more budget to buy work if it became avalible
but as with buying anything used there is a risk i could buy problems.

if you want a new one fitted then you cant go wrong with a pure freedom system give them a ring a ring and they will be great help and wont try and sell you something you don't need i havent used them personally but many on here have, but you said that you want the r/o filters etc at home therfore there is nothing really to be fitted just buy a r/o unit and get yourself a 1000lt ibc tank or what ever size you can fit in the space where you would put it you then just need a tank for the van.
or if your in the chelmsford area you could give craig at polarbrite a call there local so you could go see the systems first hand.
