Thanks guys...

I should imagine the number one is getting customers, because without them you do not have a business.

Better to start part-time. Unless you are brave.
I would be lost without a business plan

Drumming up business is proving to be quite tricky!

Have so far tried:

Leaflets.

Website and adwords (adwords only recent).

Free online directories.

Business cards given to anyone who will take one!

Yet to try:

Visiting businesses in person.

Sales letters.

I'm doing ok, but it could be better.

No doubt you have a reason for phrasing the question like that, but I'd say a more relevant question for most starters is "How do you avoid frustration when starting a new cleaning company?", and someone in this forum (I'm new & don't know how to quote, yet) hit the nail on the head - Either be brave, and with a business plan, or, equally valid, start part time - ie have another source of income so you're not completely dependant on the new business. That's what I did, and I wouldn't change it - frustration happens when you're under pressure, so do what you can to keep the pressure off.

Your customer. That's why you need to think all the details necessary to start and support a business. Keep in mind the customers will appreciate all the efforts and works you did to them.
