Paypal Paypal Paypal
« on: June 20, 2011, 12:27:00 am »
I'm thinking about setting up a business Paypal account to collect customers' payments. I know a lot of you do this but was wondering what you do about the 3.4% + 20p charge for each transaction. Do you charge the customer or look at it that it's pressure off you not collecting/chasing and no fuel costs? I'm still building my round but I've worked out that just with my customers alone these transaction charges could mount up quite a bit. Plus the round is compact and collected on a motorbike which is cheap for fuel. When you get a new customer do you allow the cost in your quote, and what if you weren't sure whether they would pay on the day or later on online (dependant on whether they're home at the time of the clean)? Anyway, your help is appreciated as always.

Cheers.

Offer this and bank transfer, give them your details. Thats free. I offer Paypal and no i dont pass that charge onto the customer, its about 50p for a tenner, so yeh it is quite a bit, but then so are a couple of visits if their not in.

I promote bank transfer in favour of Paypal, and always let the customer know  that I prefer bank transfer as it doesn't 'cost me anything in fees'

I think for a £12 clean it costs me 61p through paypal, which is cheaper than driving round collecting (which I rarely do) and less hassle than providing people with SAE's

I don't think I've got any one who regularly pays paypal, it seems to be used by the people who are usually around to pay cash or cheque, on the occasions they're out.

I also had a nochex facility - nobody's used it yet!

Paypal is very good & a trusted name!
You'll find when they pay once through paypal they will always do!much better than collecting  ;)

It's a matter of outlook in my opinion.

I rejoice at the fact that I have their money rather than niggle about the cost of getting it, so my advice is to ignore it.

waste of time and money paypal is not a trusted name do a search on google thousands of businesses have been ripped off with paypal,

my advice dont bother with it, you dont need it, offer bank transfers or send a cheque envelopes,

or let paypal take a cut of your wages instead

Got quite a few using Paypal - works for me. But as said - offer Bank Transfer as well, some will prefer it.

Offer bank transfer and PayPal but make it clear that you prefer direct bank transfers, so only the people who don't do online banking will choose PayPal.

Its quick and its easy, and they dont have to have a paypal account to pay. Just a credit/debit card.

Yeh it costs a bit but hey, so does collecting. And it is trusted, how on earth can you get ripped off? The charges are made clear when you sign up.

Not had any problems with paypal. Works smoothly and android app very handy. Juggle money in a jiffy. I'm happy with 3-4% for the convenience.

232 million PayPal accounts; that website says 100,000 in dispute (looks suspiciously round), so one in 2,320 accounts is in dispute.  When you get into the realm of big numbers, even an apparently large number of disputes is actually pretty trivial.

And it's possibly not the most impartial site, given that it would be a surprise if they were not getting referral fees for their incessant links to the "Free Merchant Account".  I'm not saying they are, just pondering aloud...

All I'm going to say is that neither I nor anyone I know has ever had a problem with PayPal.

If its good enough for ebay, its good enough for me lol  ;D

The more options you have for the custy to pay you the better . . . . . cheque, postal order, bank transfer and paypal . . . . . anything is better than wasting hours of your time collecting !
