Whats the facination?
« on: June 13, 2011, 11:01:28 am »
Hi. As you may know I am a very green newbie - just started and really enjoying it

But is it me being paranoid?. I did 3 jobs this morning and every owner watched me clean their windows. Is it because I am WFP?

Now I dont have a problem with people watching me, but it slows me down as the customers want to chat....

I suppose this could be because this is the first time I have cleaned them. I am hoping so. I am trying to build the round to 10-15 properties per day and if this continues I will have no chance

it is because it is the first time you are cleaning them, and most are use to trad and get told by other wc that wfp is crap,  take the time that they are watching you, to get to know them, and make a friend as will make life easier if there is ever a problem

Yeh, and when you've been going there for the next ten years, they'll not only not look at you, they won't even offer you a cuppa.

At Christmas I notice it's only really my newer customers who tip me.  My old ones just take me for granted and treat me like an old sock (the sort we blokes use for nefarious purposes).

Shame really.  I wish my customers watched me a bit more.

Seriously, once you win their confidence, they won't even check their windows, never mind watch you; apart from the strange ones.  And it's interesting to watch; it's new to them.  They may just be taking an interest.

It could be because you were cleaning their windows naked and they're just not used to so much nudity in their garden.

They've obviously never seen a pole that short ;D
Come and talk dirty to us!!!

Get used to it, people who are home sometimes come out and chat and it will slow you down, some will come out and ask if you did the kitchen or lounge window etc even though they were stood inside watching you do it!

Just turn it round the other way.....
you have just employed a new window cleaner, a complete stranger to you, you have willingly invited him/her onto your property not knowing anything about him/her. wouldn't you be just a little bit cautious of a stranger on your property for the first time? I know I would. :)

In time they will get used to you and you to them and their funny little ways. ;D

If they havent seen wfp before it also looks pretty cool from indoors as the water hits and runs down the glass when you rinse, i have loads of custys who watch and i know theyre not looking at me as i keep my clothes on  ;D
Im not scared of heights, just falling from them.

As Helen says its because they don't know you.

After a few cleans they'll feel more confident having you around their property.

If not, then put some clothes on.

Trust me even if you are trad some will watch you clean every window, used to get on my nerves but not now.

I have one old retired postie watched me for about six months, now he doesn't pay any notice but is really good, the gate is opened as I arrive, cash paid before I start, and he always gives me a bar of chocolate ???

When people watch you working, see it as a positive. You are advertising your skills and earning, not paying for the privilege.  ;)

;D I was using that tactic today, annoying old wife that follows me around telling how rubbish wfp is, I always say I will come and check when dry to check the results, and I do, and they are fine, so today I just kept changing the subject, I was going on about hydrophilic glass and house prices, and the council, and the government, and as she tried to moan I started another subject ;D worked a treat

thanks to the non cleaning section I have loads of rubbish to spout to her in the future ;D
