Am i going soft?
« on: June 09, 2011, 06:16:15 pm »
I keep doing freebies for customers  :o, today i washed over the bottom of t garage doors, only took a minute, i keep whipping the odd clump out of custies gutters, ive ended up doing extra awkward windows for free.

I suppose i should grow some and charge them, but what do you charge for pulling a clump out of a gutter, or spending a minute washing a garage door.

Am i the only one?  :'(

Or am i just a nice guy  ;D

No, I'm the same. I see it as customer retention, as long as its only a little job, anything that will take too long i charge.

in an ideal world, they'll remember these things and give you a nice tip at christmas, or recommend you to a friend.  I always try and do remarkable things for my customers, so that I stick out in their mind and theyre more likely to talk about me to neighbours/friends

I suspect that you're doing it because you're a nice guy.  You'll get the rewards of doing it but clearly that isn't your prime motivation.  I think you're doing the right thing.  That's the kind of stuff that gets you recommended.

thinking about it , it depends on the customer really if its a bit underpriced or they are a bit arsey then a charge is appropriate. nice custy, decent price then taking one for customer relations occasionally doesnt hurt.

we all do the odd favour for custies.although i charged a customer a fiver for washing their garage door down yesterday(big door!!)it took 7 mins to clean it properly! ;) ;D ;D

i used to do the odd gutter fix and trim a few ivy round upper windows here and there but i dont anymore because it means getting the ladders off etc, etc.once you do it once they will ask you again next year!!

the only exceptions are really old customers.ive brought their shopping in before now and made them a cups of tea!!occasionally ill get  ladders off for these folks but it only once in a blue moon!
price higher/work harder!

Yeh do the same, i think it's a case of if i like em or not.

Pulled earth out of downpipe, cleaned inside patio doors etc.

as long as it doesn't take more than 5 mins, i'l do.

"can you do me a favour" is code for blocked down pipe or gutter clips that need putting in place ::)

I keep thinking of getting small light treble ladder to keep inside van out of customers sight ;D

But i think would be no good for climbing over gates (does anyone do this? does it work)

Always nice when you say don't worry about it and you get a fiver or tenner ;)

I do it as well and to be honest if i see a clump sticking out of the gutter it winds me up! so i have to get rid of it ( OCD kicking i think),

only do it for my nice custys though.
Im not scared of heights, just falling from them.

Yeah, for the horrible ones I stick a tennis ball in the downpipe and get a full gutter clean out if it  :o

I think we all do a little something now and then.

I clean a couple of old dears inside windows now and then. The kitchen and there 'watching window' - there pretty nosy.

Picked up a customer the other day. Priced it up and the guy asked me if i could clean up a 2m piece of fascia board. Yeah sure, no problem... took me 2 mins.
