WFP how we did it.
« on: September 27, 2005, 11:32:23 pm »
Hi all

I started as a window cleaner in April last year with a ladder, applicator, squeegee etc and not one customer. I was totally fed up with stress in the corporate world and just wanted to get away from it all and make an honest living. Now there are 2 of us full time and another 3 days a week and about to come on board full time. Almost all of our work is domestic. I read the many posts on forums re WFP and in the end decided that we needed to get something designed and made for us so I went to a good engineering company and after a lot of time and money we got our trolley. Now on our 5th time around we are at least 25% faster and honestly haven't lost one customer due to the switch to WFP ( We do 1st floor upward and all leaded and geogian with WFP) I understand that others who maybe have been totally trad for many years may have reservations or just may prefer to stay trad. Maybe it's because I am comparatively new that I made the move. However I can honestly say it has worked tremendously well for me.

Here's a quick look at our WFP set up.

Here it is folded down

My criteria for the system was that it should be as easy to get to where I need it as possible and that it should be as easy as possible to set up/ break down. It takes approx 15 secs to set and I can get almost anywhere very easilly with 25 ltrs. There aren't that many houses that need more than 25 ltrs. On board that trolley is a 100 PSI shurflo pump, 85 amp hr battery, varistream MK2 flow controller and something I find a great help..  a pole holder. Good for transporting the pole and also somewhere safe to put it when using trad etc.

Anyway I took a long hard look and then decided that if I could benefit from this so could others so I decided to market it. I am "Mr normal" window cleaner and decided there is definately a market out there. Now..  I want to make one thing perfectly clear. My main business is a window cleaner. However if a product can work so well for me and I can sell it professionaly then of course I will. So, in partnership with the company who designed and made it we have been selling it now for just 3 weeks or so and the response has been tremendous.
Here is our website for what we have decided to call the FREEDOM SYSTEM..  because of the real freedom of use it has.  Have a look. The site is not quite finished yet but will be soon.

http://www.freedomwfp.co.uk/

The whole thing has been very thoroughly tested by us over the last few months.

Anyway, there it is.

Feel free to e-mail me with any questions etc that you may have.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Just wanted to say I think your trolley is one of the better designed  DIY  ones I have seen so far.

Is it possible to buy just the bare frame (without the logo).

I currently use an omnitrolley which is over 3 years old and am looking to replace it soon.

Kind regards,

Sarah  (the hubbys out grafting so I'm on for a bit this morning, whilst doing some paperwork for him, and watching TV !!!!! )

Hi Sarah

Tough life isnt it?   ;D

DIY.. did you say DIY?  !!!  I am shattered, disillusioned and feel like life isn't worth living now   ;)

Ohh how I wish that I could have built it myself. Design..  development etc on it cost me big time. We are deadly serious about offering other window cleaners a very professional product at an affordable price. Yes you can buy just the trolley. E mail me through here or through the site.

Nothin on TV so might go clean some windows.  ;D

Andrew,

SORRY !!!!!!!!!!

One of the problems I have found on any forum is that words are very one dimensional and their real meaning can sometimes be lost without the voices inflection.

Didn't use the term DIY lightly - just ment that you did not just go out and buy a commercial one of the shelf but manufactured it to your specification - in fact it was a compliment so please take it as one.

I will email you now for some further information - have a good day.

Now I feel bad  :(

I wasn't offended at all Sarah and did indeed take it as a compliment.

Just finished me lunch so venturing out again. They are forecasting rain and 50+ MPH winds here this afternoon so I better get moving.

( Actually the Mrs says.. get out from under my feet!!!)   ;D

So it's more dangerous here than braving the elements  ::)

Andrew,

That looks the business, well done.  Good website too, but no prices!

It wasn't so long ago that Simon Carter was asking why there weren't any commercial systems available that would easily fit into the boot of a car (he's since become a major big back-pack advocate), but it looks like you've filled that niche.

Would your trolley hold 50 litres; or just 25 litres?

How much for the lot?

Thanks Tosh  :)

Yes it will into almost any car. Actually that was a by-product of the design.  Like I said I went to the engineering company to get a system for ourselves but have decided to market it because I think it fits a very large part of the market. IE the "average"  window cleaner. There were no compromises made in the design/build with only real quality parts so that it will last and do the job dayin day out. For instance we only charge a couple of times a week. No need to top up charge as we work etc. A pump that will enableanyone to use even the longest poles. The Varistream MK2..  real flow control and will prevent the pump from burning out because of it switching itself on and off up to 100 times a minute if you restrict flow. Then.. if you want to go van mount just leave it folded down.. plug into the tank and you have everything you need to work up to 2 poles from and when you need it you still have the trolley.

Thanks about the site. It's still being developed and there will be prices on there soon. Believe itor not that site has been designed and set up by my 15 yr old nephew. He is a real whizz with these computer thingies. As a side issue websites dont have to cost much at all. If anyone wants a good site arranging let me know and I will put you in touch with my nephew. He will do the lot for you and make you a good site for a VERY good price.

As to the price of the trolley and or system you will have to email me at purefreedom@btinternet.com and I will get back to you as I believe it's not allowed to post prices on forums.

What I can say is that you will get a very highquality product the really does do the job for a totally reasonable price.

Im starvin!!! And a very nice smell is comin from the kitchen  :D

Andrew

OOPS missed it out...  it carries 25 ltr containers Tosh.  We found that 50 + was far too cumbersome to move around easilly.

Like the trolley,
used a trolley system for the first 3 years now use van mounted with additional hose reel,
I would also be intrested in the price of the bar bones structure of the trolley as I am looking for a trolley sytem to carry on the van for those Just in case times, your design looks the biz, alan@thewindowcleaner.biz
I like the fact that the weight seems to be above the wheel axil and it folds down to a storable size.
Going to check out your web site now

Well...  found out how long the battery lasts today. Been so busy with all sorts of stuff at night guess who didn't charge it for 5 working days?  :-X

Today.. the 6th day at around midday I noticed that the pump didnt have it's usual.. whirrrrrrrrrrr..  it didnt completely die. It worked ( kinda ) for the afternoon but just gradually the flow got lower and lower. It gasped and wheezed its way till 6 pm when we finished.

Oh well at least I know how long it lasts  ;D

I've asked for a price, but mostly I'm interested in how it's better than what I use, namely a Sureflow back pack for £135.00 on an Argos shopping trolley. No set up time at all ( fits behind the passanger seat of most four door cars ), light enough even when full to lift off the ground to carry through a house, or up a ladder to get onto a flat roof. Sixteen litres does a fair few windows, so filling it is not an issue from a bunch of Jerry cans. Nonetheless, I do think it looks like progress on the 50 & 70 litre trolleys that are about as much use as a chocolate tea pot for residential work.
Onwards and Upwards...
