Cleaning windows and obtaining customers is the easy part running a business is the hard part.
You can work for someone cleaning windows for say £10/hr
If you are only earning this from your business then you have not got a business
Most businesses generally work to a profit margin of 10%-15%
So on that basis your business needs to bring in at least £30-£60/hr
This kind of income is usually generation from commercial work
Forget the small houses concentrate on larger properties and commercial work
That is your way forward

just depends what you want!!im mostly domestic with a few commercial.im happy! ;) ;D ;D

IMO its good to get a good core of regular domestic customers that is "bread and butter" work that is more or less guaranteed!IMO domestic customers are more loyal and if you lose the odd one or two it doesnt affect your income too much.then add some commercial and larger domestic as you build up.

also i think the hardest part of a window cleaning business is getting the customers in the first place!!

once you ve got the customers its just a case of organising your work and working it from a-z(roughly).making sure you clean the windows to an acceptable standard in a time efficient way.getting round software and decent equipment also makes the job easier and more efficient.

*advanced warning about typing errors, I'm doing it on my iPhone and keep spelling things wrong, and can't be bothered to keep changing words*

we do some along Ipswich road funnily enough, and it's averaging 10 quid down there, I say I'm not cheap, and not expensive, I aim for tenners, becuase it's easy and means round numbers etc, 15 houses at 10 quid is 150 and that's not hard to do on your own, we do 250 as a pair, but that's 2 of us and were pretty quick, but do a goo job. Where are these gaps in Colchester your talking about?
I'm aiming for a core group of domestic work because it's safer and less hassle, I u
lose 1 it's no big deal, but if u lose a 200 pound commercial job, it's a big hit, so a balance of both is good in my opinion
I can't really join forces with my work mate, as that would mean a kit more work, he likes his money! And I don't think we would be able to make it work, if I'm honest we'd have to be doing at least 350 days, and I'm not uo for that, a well as building up a huge round, he drives a maseratti, and is well off, es been doing it 15 years and his round is what I'd call a 'perfect round' and he's makig a lot of money, I'm happy for him, and he's always looked after me, but I want my own round as the possibilitys are endless, getting a lad working for you and giving them 60 quid a day is a good idea, and that's what he's always done, with the exception of me, as I'm family so I help out with collecting etc to earn a bit more.

ways i got my work
- canvasing
- leaflet droping
- dont use yellow pages as it is crap
- get a sighn writen jumper and go to local companies

Yep new bulids seem to be the best option, my best night canvassing was in a new build area where I got 10, so I'm always looking for new areas, cheers for heads up mate

personaly im not keen on those double bay semis (where the bay is 5 panes ,curved front) as theres easier stuff . your price of a tenners  is okay,i usually shoot in at 9 quid and bank on the tip to make it a tenner !     far as i see it theres gaps  on every street  , i dont work that many days in colchester ,i really only go for a change of the scenery , and im convinced its richer there than in ipswich . i get VERY good tips there and do more of the insides too

Yeah it's a gret place to window clean, we used to have 2 days in Ipswich but pied them as it was hassle, Colchester is a good area, but it's got a lot of windies, and it's just getting lucky I suppose and finding areas where try need a window cleaner, I always go 15 quid if there's a conservatory, and 10 for just an average house, yah the 9 quid idea and tip is good but I just fond it an easy number and i see a tenner as the new 'fiver' no one seems to batter an eye lid at a tenner these days. I we all charge a bit more we will all benefit as that will become the going rate!
