last spring i was working on a road and so was another outfit. they washed three drives, did a good job but never re sanded the drives which were block paving. today i was on that road again and went to look. the drive i did was resanded and there was a new layer of moss on all the chamfers. the un resanded drives had no moss and no weeds. i am thinking is it really necessary to resand on domestic bolcks which are on the flat with little traffic 'cos resanding is a real pain given the climate we have and particularly if it's a job that is miles away. i know that the sand is supposed to consolidate the structure of the bock etc but would be interested to hear comments. i am thinking of giving customers a rebate and a bag of sand to do there own.

hi ged   that realy depends on the quality of the original constution  depends on your customer   depends on you     i give my customers the choice   i can do it   they can do it   or they can leave it

The moss may well depend on the side of the street - does the sun only get on it in the evening ?

Did you put down any weed killer or fungicidal spray.

no weed killer as there were no weeds on this occassion but loads of moss. i have no knowledge of a suitable legal moss killer that will perservere to discourage moss in the future. it just occured to me if there was no sand or very little in the joints then there would be nowhere for the moss to sit.

Are you being serious?

I personally wouldn't leave Block Paving unsanded weather a path, drive or even a flower bed!!!

Next time you clean one give a block a little wobble and see how loose it can be!
