Sanity Price Check
« on: January 28, 2011, 08:38:35 pm »
I have done my carpet cleaning and upholstery course and have priced up my first job. Can you check that I'm not going mad and check whether I am near enough on my price before I put it in.It's a Hockey Club bar
600 sq ' carpet @ £180
11 chairs @ £55
12 tub chairs @ £150
2 seater sofa @£60 as really bad
3 seater wall fixed area £40
4 seater wall fixed seat £50
10 barstools £70

total £600 and reckon 9 1/2 hours.

Was going to clean chairs with Woolex and Fabric restorer. As they are polypropylene for the tubs and but are heavily stained with beer.
Carpet with Powerbust with fibre and fabric rinse as wool.
I was going to discount by 12.5% for immediate payment so total job price £525.
I have a steempro powerplus.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I agree. Not bad money for a days work. Did you go for the regular yearly clean aswell? Don't forget.

As David Dickinson would say, I think it's a good deal!

How about this one,I quoted on a large office complex yesterday,2 floors, all offices furnished,1 large flight of stairs on 3 levels 2220 sq foot, priced it at £595.Priced at .25 p per sq ft,then couldn`t read the calculator on my phone eyesight is getting worse,so should have been £555.  ::)

Thanks a lot Guys.............It's difficult when you start to have the courage to price. it's only then when you say it that you can gauge the reaction!

As a footnote I now have the Tennis Club to quote for. Offered to buy the beer for the guy when I quote....well the forum seems to push marketing with the word Free! I just may have to speed up the quote if he is a heavy drinker.

His reply to my E Mail is below.....

Sounds like an excellent idea. I shall give you a bell when you are back next week and see if we can arrange a mutual meet to discuss. Costs will be paramount as I know the Committee are choosy with their spend!

Thanks for your support.
...................

I may have to discount a bit more to 15% as the bar takings are less, but to be honest I just feel that just because someone says they have not a lot of money they still will want a great job doing.

Any thoughts??

My own view (being a salesman) is to say OK if I do it for less say 25% off the prices above, for example, will you be happy if I cut corners by not vacuuming  or vacuuming in a circle, of if I clean the bar stools and say some of the stains don't come out? At least your tennis players will be sitting on cleaner stains!!

Depending on how much you need /want the work if i was you new to the industry i'd be tempted to drop prices slightly anyway.

You can use these jobs as building blocks for your business getting them to write you a glowing review, which you can then use to help get further work.

All the best

I'd never, never, compromise on quality - leave a few stains behind, not do the corners - never. I'd rather pay myself half the hourly rate & do a good job. Pricing for these sorts of things is difficult - the main thing is to show how you're trying to help - we show our normal pricing structure on the quote pad, so can point out a discount - and try & keep it OK to have a second bite of the cherry. I suppose 25% genuine disc of normal domestic is about what I'd try.
