we are having the same trouble mate, its an undervoltage problem as ionics put it the webasto takes 4 volts to fire up not leaving much power left to get you through the day

we are in the process of wiring another battery into the loom 1 for the pumps and 1 for webasto

1 battery is not enough to power our thermopure, we put it on charge every night till 07:00am every moring and still cuts out most days

Replace you alternator with one that will charge more amps and put you second in tandem with your van battery.I had a camper van that needed a high anps just to turn on the sound system and that was how I solved the problem. My  camper was a V W with a35 amp alternator and I fitted a passat alternator that  charged 85 amps.

ive got the thermopure as well but i have 2 batteries in the back which are wired to the van battery my voltage sits at about 12.6 and drops to 12.3 when i turn the heater on ive had it for about 8 month and it was working fine till about 2 month ago at the same voltage which makes me think its not a battery problem

I have the same issue with my Flame (Brodex) water heater.

As it only occurs in temperatues below -3; I am under impression that the cold fuel has a negative influence on the burner.

Before someone comments about the air temp(intake); the air intake is supplied from inside the van and I have experienced the problem despite having a heater in the van.

If it were a voltage issue, I would expect the unit to work when the van was running, but this isn't the case.
