marketing to offices - advice on what people do
« on: December 21, 2010, 01:00:11 pm »
looking to increase our marketing for office cleaning over the next weeks as i've got plenty of time and was after some advice as to what and how people do this?

i've seen people suggest cold calling, sending letters and brochures by post, and sending emails.

i've never done any of these so don't know how people do these, e.g. how do they get the contact details to cold call/send brochures, what do they say etc? what about email marketing? do they send just a plain email (saying what?) or get a nice html made that is like an online flyer?

i know it's a lot to ask for appreciate any small amount of advice

Walk into reception, make friends with the receptionist and tell her you run a cleaning company and ask if their present cleaners do a good job, ask her the name of the person who is responsible for the contract. write to them and tell them about your company and why they should contact you when the contact comes up for renewal. Never say you will undercut the present contractor but offer better value for money. The correct name is all important

Actually BDCS is correct.

Walk in make friends with the receptionist... they are the gate keeper.

We walk into offices all the time. Generally have a box of chocolates, a business info pack.

You will be surprised how good it works.

You need to extract imformation from the person paid to filter useful people from those that are a pain. You need to do that in whatever way you see fit but you need that name. You don't have to get fresh to be friendly  :o

bumping as would like to see other ideas on what to do once i've got names? e.g. business info pack. is that a folder? a few home made printed sheets of info? brochures etc?

what would you suggest including in the marketing? would a simple email/letter/brochure with a few bullet points and sentences explaining what we do be the right thing? or should it be more detailed with full explanations? how salesy should it be?

Send a letter of introduction of your services with a few bullet points on what you do and can offer.

Google search Marketing Letters or purchase a book on how to write them if you are not sure how to design and write a catchy one. Or you can let a marketing company design it for you at a cost obviously.

Send them out, wait a week and see if you get any response. Then follow up with a telephone call.

Also you need to be able to track your marketing. If its an email or letter provide a reference, or a special contact number so you can track the success or failure rate.

Best way I believe, is get on the phone, get the decision makers name, and aim for an appointment.  You then at least know you have time set aside with that person to do your pitch.

Remember also you cant just ring up incase they are TPS registered, so you could look at getting some data.
