I've dropped out, and i've had a bigger pasting over this than anything. This is a pasted version of my last reply but i seem to have been sent to coventry. So this is me doing my best to bring them all round, and these are supposed to be the elite of wc discussions.

I'm sorry you all took it like that. As regards the locked topic I asked who would be interested in a clutch being cnc'd. I didn't ask for engineering solutions because this has all been debated before.

I did answer Tom Crowther as fully as I could without having him phone me up. Matt will be pleased to learn that another poster has successfully used his idea of running it off the leisure battery on the second speed setting, and from what he said, this reduces the speed but helps put the torque further into the correct zone with more power, meaning that he is able to use it without any clutch at all. I didn't know about this, and in fact told Matt that I didn't think it would work.

Davids, I’m sure I would have answered to the best of my ability. This has all been done before; several people have had a go

Dai, your mate would be a good guy to look at this. But firstly not many it seems are interested, and secondly for any motor to work without gears the torque has to be right. The electric drills with a slow speed setting just happen to work.

Hydro has started a thread with a link that looks very good. Alex had a product that was £1,100 all those years ago when this started.

You might not be able to see it, but the hostility to this is very like the early hot days. We thought we'd got a great idea and said so, boy were we wrong. In the end I gave up saying what a great thing it was. So you'll forgive me if I don't want to get in too deep. For this to work you need a clutch, and Alex has cnc access, which means this could be done if there was sufficient level of interest - which it appears there isn't-. I’ve explained the principle many times and shown pictures, and told you that I’ve used them without problems for three years.

Alex even watched the video, and out of politeness probably more than anything, gave me a well done, but he was worried about battery drain over a day and the keep it simple aspect of having fewer things to go wrong. So he didn't see a widespread take up.

To everyone I’ve peed off I apologies, and yes there is often an element of attention seeking fun in me, but this is a forum and we can't all be the same.
