Fastest RO
« on: December 14, 2010, 11:07:54 pm »
Hi all, which is the fastest affordable RO out there?
When I say affordable I mean under £500.
I have a Merlin and at the moment its taking 9 hrs to produce 500ltrs ???
DI only isnt really an option as TDS of tap water is 200 >:(
Cheers

The 40 inch membranes are very fast, but you do need very good water pressure for them to operate as they should. Look at a HF4 or HF5 40 inch membrane.

petsi I have a twin 4040 on a booster pump, stainless steel housings, all professionally plumbed with John Guest type fittings but they are nickel plated - very cool.

I know its way over £500 but the 4040 route is the wa to go.  I think June at Gapswater does a 4040 kit for about £500 but if you go 4040 get the HF5 membrane.

FYI - my system runs between 600ltrs/hr in cold weather to 1000lts/hr in the summer - I can run it quicker but the guy who built our systems recommended running at 100psi and 50/50 - system is about 4 years old and still produces water about 006ppm from membranes - we use approx 4000 ltrs a week.

Petski - that is way too slow for a Merlin - sounds like you have low water pressure,
get a booster pump ( £170 ) and you will almost double your production

Gaps water treatment are the people you want to speak with, they sell a low pressure 40x40 membrane which is the best I have ever used, consistently low readings, 250-350PPM in 003PPM out then pumped into my truckmount DI delivery system "Hardly ever have to spend on resin with such low TDS".

If you call them and speak with June, she's very knowledgeable and will advise you on what filter system suits you best.

4040 attached to a low tap pressure 40-50psi, water at 300tds will give you 1500-2000 litres in 24 hours

set up cost with di around your £500 mark, add a pump to increse water production

yes elvis - our setup has been very good to us, the pump is a grundfos and all the fittings are professional push fit type.  Never had to do anything other than change prefilters and carbon filters.  The unit is rigged up on a frame and boxed in with stainless steel, auto-flush ( flushes for 30 seconds before and 30 seconds after production), all I have to do is press a start button on the control panel, it tells me tap tds, ro out tds seperately for each membrane and di out tds.  There is a flow meter as well and its all digital.

It wasn't cheap but then it has been well worth the money.

son has a merlin at his gaff and it seems to do the job for him but he has good water pressure (nearly 70psi) going through membranes and his tap tds is only 110 or so.
