« on: November 23, 2010, 08:46:42 pm »
commercial steps and hallways have just had the carpet tiles removed and has left lots of glue which is solid and looks like it has been applied with a tile comb, these have been down now for aprox 30 years so you can imagine how hard it is set, anyone know what I can use to remove it all.    please   :'( :'( :'(

Adhesive is a problem that we come accross all the time with commercial flooring contracting and it is never possible to to effectiverly remove it. To over come the problem and to eliminate the possibility of another adhesive reacting with the existing adhesive we put a coat of latex screed on top of the existing adhesive. It is the quickest and easiest solution to the problem and will also leave you with a smooth sound surface on which to fit the new flooring. It must be a latex screed as this will adhere to just about anything where as a lot of screeds wont.
Obviously the previous posters have not ever considered this problem before........................

As Peter has said, the only effective way to deal with residual adhesive is to latex screed over it.

Good luck trying to scrape it off - you will still be doing it in a months time !
