nightmare staff

I've just taken on another lady and she has been with me for a week housecleaning.She is a total nightmare.She is quite  loud round the customers and today she nearly dropped a ladys ornament because she was being careless and i told her to be more careful and she said to me well its not expensive anyway.I just couldn't believe the attitude. Has anyone else had any nightmare staff? is there any good people out there, just feels like i"m never going to find any good workers.

dismiss her immediately.

It is hard to find the staff with the right attitude. But they are out there. It takes time and effort.

Also what amount of hours are you giving to them? This will make a big difference in the type of person you attract.

How did you hire her in the first place?

Did you have an advert in job centre, paper?

Was it a simple telephone call and you met here on site?

Did you send them a form for requesting employment and did they send it back filled in correctly?

Or did you not do any of that at all?

Depending on what you did and whether they submitted the correct forms in the first place tells a lot about someone in the beginning.

How many interviews did you have with her?

Have you a correctly drawn up employment contract and state a trial period?

She works for my mum at her care home as a cleaner so i didnt bother doing a interview as she was meant to be  good cleaner,which she is,just a bad attitude.

No! You need to have procedures in place.

Just because she might be good at a care home does not mean that she fits or suits your environment that you place her in.

In a care home environment she does not need a great attitude and is probably not customer facing that much.

Get yourself a procedure and follow it accordingly every time, you cannot run a business off of friends of someone else.

No your right,that was the only time i did that. In future i will do it the proper way

Hi Tabaha,

Advice from experience.  Treat your company as you expect other to treat it.  This means if you flaunt the rules and procedures then staff will do exactly the same.  Good advice given above, stick to company formalities and you will find that in most cases (not all) staff will take you and your company seriously irrespective of your company size.

Chin up.  There are good staff out there who are willing to put the time and effort in to make you feel proud and confident in their ability to represent your company.
