supplying toilet rolls and hand towels
« on: November 14, 2010, 11:25:14 am »
i've always put we can do this but until today never actually had to supply these so it's fairly new to me and something i'm keen to get experienced with.

one small site with only 8 staff have asked us to quote to supply the toilet rolls and hand towels whilst we clean once a week.

I'd like to know how people would normally quote for this. Do you simply price and extra amount per week for it e.g. £10 extra a week, or would you charge by the box as and when they get through them?

Also i asked for an idea of how much they use but they said they had no idea and i didn't want to seem like i didn't know what i was talking about so i said i'll base it on average usage per staff. trouble is i don't know how much this is so would appreciate if anyone who's worked this out could let me know what the typical amount for an employee to use is?

Surrey,

We supply products to many offices from a small number to offices with over 200 people in.

Now as an average you would be looking at about 36 rolls per month on toilet rolls and just under a box a month on paper towels. - however this is providing the staff don't steal them, use them for personal use or abuse the usage they are not designed for and throw them everywhere.

We estimate at about £0.20 - 30pence per person for budgeting purposes only.

Charge by the box separately on a separate invoice.

I would also give them the choice for a quality product and a "Value" cheaper product so they can compare prices. Let them have a sample of both the "Value" and more expensive product.

We always keep a couple of boxes in stock so they never run out.

There is something on issa.com website that has a matrix to work it out I read somewhere but I could not find it.

Hope that helps

Dave

just to make sure the average you've suggested are based on the employees i mentioned in my previous post?

is the £0.20-£0.30 per person based on per day?

i really like the idea of value products and quality products for comparison. will do this though we can't get stock in that fast for getting the quote back so can only have it in writing. would you give them just one sheet of each so they can compare?

would i need to do anything to ensure the customer knows how much they're using other then at the end of the month bill them and say you used 3 boxes of toilet rolls and 1 box of hand towels so it comes to this much? My concern is they could say "no way we've not used that much".

also any suggestions from where we can get them from?

Yes that's 20 - 30 pence per day per employee for an average of soap, paper towels, loo roll. Its just for budgeting purposes only.

You cant say they will only use this much... the reason is because without being rude, one person might use 3 sheets of toilet roll, the other person may use 5 sheets - I am sure you get my drift. The same is said for the paper towels. On average a person may use between 3 - 5 paper towels per visit to the toilet.

As for samples - we send in one roll of loo roll of good quality and a value one and a pack of paper towels. One to watch on paper towels, the cheaper ones don't always fit the dispenser.

On delivery, you get them to sign for the said amount. Say 3 boxes of each. Monitor over the next few months how much they are using. We did this for all our sites that we supply. Never had an issue.

If you really want to get technical, you can get dispensers that feed one sheet at a time! That way the individuals who just waste the products generally get fed up in waiting to get a handful and blocking the toilets or throwing it everywhere if you happen to have that environment.

Purchasing varies on the amount you can purchase so you need to be competitive and buy in bulk to be competitive. Do you have storage? Would you purchase by the pallet or box?

I will email you a few places that possibly could help you but search as well as you may find a better supplier that suits your requirements.
