scam or not ????
« on: September 23, 2005, 11:05:39 pm »
Its on ebay

people who know me online will know how much i think these things are scams and a joke, BUT

right, newsnight did a article on it and they are s.posed to send them out

Im allways sceptical, but if newsnight, who dont mess about, said they work, then who knows

here is the link -- its a referral link from me, BUT thats not the point (as from what i can make of it, you dont need refferals) , read on a little

http://www.ipodsetc.co.uk/?r=2136

now if you sign up and complete a "OFFER" you are s.posed to get what you want, ranging from a 100 quid mini ipod to more

anyways, this is the bit i dont get

under Offers

it says

Complete just one offer below to be eligible for your FREE item!

a example is:

SportingOdds (now ive used these B4 for a bit of footy betting)

A minimum deposit of only $50 ( £28 ) is required to qualify for this offer. - Usually updated within 5 days.

or

from virgin bingo (virgin are legit as we know)

A minimum deposit of £55 is required to qualify for this offer. - Usually updated within 5 days.

now P.haps some1 can tell me how it works, they must get 10 - 20 quid per referral from them, this doesnt pay for the mini ipod ?????

as Ive said, ive allways thought these were scams, but in this case with the newsnight link BUT i still cannot see how it works

-- if a mod doesnt like this post, then delete it, its not a post so people sign up, i am just interested in how it works, and cannot see it

Can't work it out myself, but I can tell you that you never get anything for free.

They wouldn't work at a loss. :-\

Ive been thinking on this and it still doesnt add up

even if you need 6 refferals to complete the offers, thats only 6 X 10 - 15 quid

still not enough for the ipod nano (130 quid or so)

or did BBC newsnight strike lucky and they were 1 of the chosen few ?? ?? ?

loads of links for it on ebay aswell, with people saying it works, but they would i guess (but if they didnt get anything, why would they do it ??)

this was discussed on radio 5 live the other day. apparently you sign up and pay your money and have to refer a set number of referrals in turn, each one of those has to refer others. the trick is you get the 'free/cheap' item when your name reaches the top of the referral list which could take months if not years.

its basically a pyramid scam

but how did BBC newsnight follow the links and get 1 ?? ?? ??

i allways think they are scams, but this 1, you dont need to pay anything, just complete a "offer" which as listed above

from virgin bingo (virgin are legit as we know)

A minimum deposit of £55 is required to qualify for this offer. - Usually updated within 5 days.

you dont need to spend a penny (or dime for our usa users)
put the money in, wait a week or so, then withdraw it from virgin

i dunno, i allways say "scam" but the BBC newsnight feature makes me wonder

My friend retired a few years ago and tried different things to keep busy - one was something not too dissimilar to this - it is all about referring people and generating contacts through the internet -
He paid fifty quid one off or something like that to 'join'- apparently it is based around advertising - you give your details and are exposed to offers etc and you get income for referring others
Currently he makes about 400 quid a month off these referrals - keeps telling me to get into it but not my cup of tea

yes, on the few sites i run, i have a good affilate link scheme, might generate me 100 quid a month from clicks and payment from affilate groups

its how this ipod thing works, but i cannot get the sums

me useing a link = 10 - 15 quid

me refereing 6 others = 60 - 90 quid

total 70 - 105 quid

not enough to buy a ipod

BUT

when you look at it, if the 6 others then get 6 others, then you start to generate a fair bit more

as i said, BBC newsnight did a feature on it, and they were sent a mini-ipod

i dunno though
