still confused about resin???
« on: September 16, 2005, 09:24:01 pm »
I admit I'm thick (just wanted to get that in before someone else said it)--but here I go again-- when the resin in your di tank is used up--what do you  do??? ???
It seems like what I'm getting from reading posts is that you buy a new bag of resin and refill your tank your self--is that right???
I'm curious because the guy I talked to here (Culigan water sytems guy)  told me he would supply tanks and when the resin needed to be changed he would just change the tanks out for me--but he wants to charge a pretty hefty fee.

Change it yourself , all you need is a suitable funnel to make it easier , i use a cut down 4 L mineral water bottle , it takes 5 minutes , i cant believe people are making a living out of doing it !

Thanks for your rplys guys, but what about the thred i read that refilling the resin in a di tank involves acid.  Did i dream that ???.  Am i right in thinking you just get a funnel then, and pour it into the tank and close up the tank?

   Thanks Missouri Mike

yes you are right

the acid thing is for companies who can recharge resin .

but fresh virgin resin is best .

Most DI tanks are refillable, when the old resin is spent you put in new resin job done. The thread about recharging resin is a different thing altogether. We throw old resin away but there is a process that recharges spent resin. This is the process that involves using acid. I think most of us can forget about that for the time being. In the meantime when your TDS reading starts going up empty the resin out of the vessel and fill it with new. DAI

just a quick word for  david st ives--
I called aba di people--talked to a nice guy

prices  are like this
to BUY 400$ each tank (1.2 cu feet of minerals--10000galon capacity ---10000 grain capacity)  says I need 2
to reginerate about 100$  each and I would go throught them in about 40 days---so maybe 1 1/2 months.

pretty much the same as the culigan guy I think.--let me recheck my math....

Mike

the regeneration charge seems reasonable as here in the uk we pay £80
for 25 litres of fresh resin .there is no recharging facilities in uk .so it is hard to compare .

Dai

thanks mate
