Beware when buying something that says 'breathable' as i've bought various waterproofs but they're not all 100% breathable, some will still retain an amount of perspiration thus making you feel damp. I suppose it's price that determines quality.
berghaus paclite over trousers and jkt , had 3 years , great in summer or winter, best combined in a layering system- i.e base layer - this stops you feeling damp from sweating,
a t shirt, light weight fleece for colder conditions - berghaus again do a good one, and a shell type outer jkt for wet weather ,
worn this way , they do not feel bulky , and you stay warm and dry all day long, mountaineers use the same system - works very well.
for boots brasher borgue gtx are amongst the best , 3 years of use , and still water proof.
just make sure you clean and re proof your gear regulary, and it will serve you well.
