Hi Surrey,

No its not that bad. You can use it. Just make sure you rinse it well and all will be fine.

The brush that I think he is refuring to a standard medium floor brush (The blue is colour coded) for everywhere else. Depends if you use that system, Red for toilets, yellow for kitchen, blue everywhere else.

I could be wrong.

As for the product being eco friendly mmmm! Not too sure on that. Best of luck with your marketing on eco products for the environment. We just market the fact we will get it 100% clean, seems to work for us.

If you wash it and pick up with a wet vac, do a test on the area and see if it makes your floor slippery as there are many types of floor surfaces. It only costs about £8.00 so if you decide you cant use it, it has not broke the bank.

If you read the environmental page on clover chemicals that might help you decide.

100% clean is easier to market then eco so a better choice (and one we also do as we don't just do green cleaning) but i found marketing as eco really had some major benefits for us, one being the customer thinks it's safer for the kids and also that they're "doing their bit for the environment" etc. It's just a pain sometimes when we need a different product that we'll be regularly using so need to find something else that is green, always works out but just takes a little longer to find sometimes .

just to confirm you mean a brush like this...

http://www.cleanstore.co.uk/products/Product.asp?ID=1415&?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=comparsionshopping

and not like this...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rotary-Floor-Scrubber--Brush-17%22-Blue-Soft-to-Medium_W0QQitemZ130425609461QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=145129922131&rvr_id=145129922131&cguid=222774be1250a0e20197a647fd49a082

if so with the size of the floors i don't think this is a viable option as it'd kill our backs.

I doubt that brush will be any good. You'll need the blue poly that attached to a rotory, as mentoned in my earlier post. These can be bought for most, if not all rotary's and are approx £70.

Hi Surrey,

I can see how my post was a bit misleading many appologies, Ian is correct, you need a rotary floor brush. Blue. They tend to be stiffer alternatively you can use buff pads like the blue scourer types for the buffers. The get the wet vac to clean suck it up.

thanks for clearing that up. thing is there is no way they'd want to pay for this work to be carried out weekly or even fornightly yet they expect it to be cleaner then it is, and tbh the size doesn't warrant having a machine like that at the school as the floors are fairly small. perhaps the change of chemicals will be enough.

Hi Surrey,

Blue polyprop brush is what you want, standard speed rotary.

Yes Selden, sorry about the misspa, was late!

Everyone can see that your marketing is based on the "Green Credentials" of the products that you use, however, just access the latest "Which?" reports, you might have a very un-pleasent surprise!

Just for the record, rotary brushes are coloured because of different materials, nothing to do with preventing cross contamination.

Regarding the choice of vacuum any recognised make will do, just ensure that it has 2 motors!

Regards,

Rob

Surrey,

I know its in a school but why is the floor dirty?

1. Was it already dirty when you started
2. Is it because its where they do art, spill paints etc
3. What is the soiling, i.e. general dirt, play doh
4. Exact type of safety floor? there many types with indented patterns, different material and some are harder to clean that others.

Any chance of a picture either on here or email me at dave@kentcleaning.com

You will have to meet the standards otherwise you face losing the contract. Is there any chance to have a measurement of the floors. I don't need to know the details of the school like location.

If I could see exactly what you are facing I might be able to help better

i'll take a picture monday and send you one. If i remember correctly someone on this forum said it was Altro and all the pictures online of Altro suggest the same.

yes it was dirty when we started, so bad that when we were cleaning it the dirt was getting slowly better in patches which they quickly noticed and wrongly thought it was getting dirtier in the other areas.

They're by a back door in 2 classrooms, and then science rooms and toilets. the school gets very muddy and grassy so it just seems to pick up a lot of the dirt and hold onto it.

I had simmilar issues with school flooring, and it was a nightmare trying to get rid of some of the stains. There are a number of floor types which resemble Altro flooring. real Altro flooring is virtualy bomb proof, there is little chance of paints (common is schools)or dirt permeating the fibres of the floor, so it may be a cheaper type of flooring. I have spoken to Altro about this on several occasions and they recomended bleaching pads then regular maintainance with Flash Lemon Multi Purpose Cleaner or Selden Selclen.

just to say thanks to everyone for the help. i went with dave's suggestion and tried ubik 2000 and it's worked very well. i used a spray bottle to dilute and put it on the floor and then i give it a minute to break down the dirt. then i've used a hard brush to help break down any harder stuff and then mop it all up. works really well and isn't taking too much time either.

Hi Surrey,

Wow something I suggested actually worked!? :D

I'm going to mark that down as a first... and give myself a star.

Cheers
