Importance of a survey
« on: September 15, 2005, 08:49:45 am »
Customer called on Wednesday night wants stair carpet cleaned explained I needed to come and carry out survey but she insisted her friend had recommended me and it was not an issue so booked for Thursday morning.Turned up to do the clean and she said she had to go out left the money, close the door behind me.Last night received phone call saying carpet was clicked and it was on two stairs went round to look at it said it was ok when I cleaned it but she is adament it was not there before. If only I had carried out my regular survey looks like I will be paying for a new carpet as it is her word against mine plus I don't want to get a bad reputation.First one in 51/2 years :'(

Hi steve
Don't know what u mean by 'clicked' but the way a carpet reacts dependent upon fitting is a bit like the car in front (you cant be responsible for that car it may turn left or right ) unfortunately cleaning tends to show up a) faults in the carpet and b) faults with the fitting.
If she washed her curtains and they shrank, would she blame her washing machine ?
regards

Steve,

I would suggest you have a strong case in your favour as she would not allow you to survey.

Remember you do not want a reputation as an easy touch either.

I too do not know what clicked is , possibly relates to Premier League position as in 'it's about time Sunderland clicked and got some points.' ::)

Cheers,

Doug

When you say clicked do you mean some of the face fibres have run or been pulled out. What kind of carpet is it? It may be possible to repair.

Test the customers resolve explain that there was no dammage to the carpet when you left and explain that you will contest any action she wants to take. If you give in to these people they will do it to some one else.
I once cleaned a carpet for a lady who was going on holiday and leaving her teenage son to over see the work, about 2 weeks later i got a phone call saying that we had torn the carpet in the middle of the room and what were we going to do about it, i explained that the carpet was fine when we left and she should have a word with her son. A couple of weeks past and i heard nothong untill a trading standards officer called, i welcomed him in, made him a coffee and proceeded to show him the equipment we use, and expalined that the lady had gone away leaving her son in charge. He agreed with us there was no way we were to blame and would recomend that the lady talk to her son about what had gone on while she was away!
Dont ignore the matter deal with it head on, theres always someone pulling a fast one.
