Anybody use this method.
« on: August 25, 2010, 11:50:12 am »
Hi all,

Just wanted to know what you think about the method i am using and have always used for cleaning carpet.
Before i start, i mentioned this before and got slated here (; maybe people were in a bad mood.
OK here we go:
1. First off i hoover the carpet only if they need it because honestly dont feel the need to hoover unless they visibly dirty.
2. I apply my prespary through my Numatic rotary and agitate at the same time with the carpet shampoo brush.
To me this is perfectly acceptable you getting two jobs done at the same time.
I know many of you will bang on about dwell time before agitation but never found it neccessary. I feel there is enough dwell time before i rinse.
3.Then I finally rinse using my powerflite perfect heat along with my RX20 and rarely use rinse and fibre unless its a wool carpet or I am applying scotchguard or the like.
Thats about it, get paid and goodnight.
I have tried applying prespray, waiting a while then agitating with shampoo brush but found it no way as effective as doing it at the same time.
Please let me know if you think this is not as effective as the conventional way and why.
Also just another quick point to add to my rant. I have a new inline prespayer but find it useless, absolutely no power, got it from the states last year and never neeen able to use it . Anyone have similar problems??

Thanks Brendan

Hey Brendan,

There are others far more qualified than me, but I'd just say that your approach sounds ok to me.  The agitation with the rotary no doubt gets you great results and I don't think most HWE operators would do this, so you're going the extra mile.

With the dwell time before the agitation, I think that just depends on what chem you're using to pre-spray.  Some will need a dwell to get the optimum effect from them.  The newer generation chems like M-Power (and most microsplitters) need no dwell prior to agitation.

Cheers

Thanks for replying Dave,

I use mainly powerburst but have also used trafficclean, even crystal green, along with others, depends sometimes whats in the van...

I do a lot of student accomodation and they are, no joking absolutely thrashed but they 9/10 always come up really great.
Im in rep. of Ireland and people dont believe in getting their carpets cleaned here unless they really need cleaning if you know what I mean :(
Always been extremely pleased with the results along with the customer, Happy days!!

Brendan

Why fix it if it ain't broke Brendan.  If you're getting the good results on those trashed rental props then you're doing something right; stick with it.

Although I've mainly moved to more eco-friendly chems (only the ones that actually work really well!), I did start off using Trafficlean as my main pre-spray and Power Burst on really bad carpets.  They're both very effective chems but high pH.   That may not be too important if it's mainly Polyprop rental carpets you do, but wool or high wool mix may benefit from taking the pH down after the clean; with something like Prochem F&F rinse.

Cheers,

Your dead right dave,

I do use F&F in the rinse on wool carpets or expensive rugs to bring the PH down.
But like you said on polyprop dont feel its as necessary and dont feet the need for it.

Ta Mate.

Brendan.

If anything, your routine sounds almost too thorough  ;D

If you're getting good results and repeat work, you're doing something right!

Brendan, I don't know where you live in rep. of Ireland as you call it and I don't know where you got the idea that people here don't get their carpets cleaned unless they need cleaning. Of course they meed them cleaned if they send for us in the first place. I myself live in Donegal, cleaning carpets for almost twenty years now and I see no difference in people no matter what part of the World they live in.
I have customers who get their carpets cleaned two or three times yearly, others once a year and I have possibly cleaned as many clean carpets as dirty ones in my time. There are people too , pubs for example who will wait until the blacktop can be scraped off with a spade before booking but all in all ''rep. of Ireland'' is no different to any other place.

Hi Fintan,
I call it Rep. of Ireland cos thats where I live.
I live in Kerry down South if thats what you mean.
I got the Idea as "you call it" that people only call if they really need their carpets cleaned because thats been my personal experience for the last 20 years, and people are fully entitled to do that, their decision entirely.
Of course thats not everybody, and maybe I should have mentioned that, but the very fast majority of jobs I do are like that. Thats just the way it is. ;D Im happy for you if you have clients that call you in three times a year, maybe I just aint that lucky.

Some clients three times a year, some once a year, some maybe once every three years, it varies. But I don't think geographical location has anything to do with call frequencies, thats is entirely a case of how good we are at selling our services to the customer , and what the customer see as a carpet in need of cleaning either because it looks dirty or they see the need to have them cleaned for health and hygiene reasons

PS
And there I was Brendan, all those years thinking Kerry was a Kingdom, and now you tell me it's a Republic.  :o :-\ :-\
