I cleaned a cream PP carpet today for a Sri Lankan family,it was in a room right next to the kitchen.

It cleaned up OK but there were still a few marks/spots here and there that wouldn't budge at all,wiht the room being right next to the kitchen I presumed they were grease marks - the family walked bare foot everywhere as well - so I dont think that helped.

I recall from the courses I did that PP hold grease more than other carpets but is there anything that will shift this sort of thing.

I used Ultra Pac in the end and as i said got it reasonable

If you've made no or little improvement it is probably fibre colour loss. If you leave dirt/grit in carpet fibres rubbing together for a long period of time colour will be lost, and more so with nylon carpets. This happens mainly in main 'traffic' areas.

marti I don't want to blind you with science ....

 but it was a PP' not nylon, 'apparent soiling' can be a problem with Nylon as the colour is only on the outer surface of the nylon fibre but with PP the fibre is made that colour so abrasive wear has no effect.

Could try citraboost by prochem, its strong stuff but quite expensive

You are quite right My Halliday, polyprops are manufactured in that way as opposed to nylon carpet having the colour added to them, however, colour loss can still occur in polyprops in traffic areas.

I experimented with some newly aquirred M power to start but it didn't seem to be doing much

I tried M-power after many good reviews from people on here but i thought it was useless!!

What did you use in the tank after the pre-spray? If the carpet was a bit greesy all over or quite minging then I find a plain water rinse wont do Jack. I use Formula90 95% of the time.

A good tip would be to spray a bit of solvent on the greese spots and then work it in a bit before extracting.

Power Burst and Enz-all are my choice of pre-sprays. They would have done a good job of that carpet.
Been experamenting with addin citraboost to the pre-spray but not had a real minger to get true results from yet....

I bought some M power after trying a free sample the other day,I did a wool carpet witha large stain that the customer thought was either coffee or coke,I sprayed the stain witgh the M power and the thing literally disappeared..........I'll have some of that I thought and bought some.

I used it today and was not impressed with the result on that carpet.As I said I'm just experimenting at the moment as Ive only gone full time 3 weeks ago

The best results are obtained from cleaning PP. The way I would have tackled this is as follows:-

Spray pre-spray, detergent, at 70 degrees using 400psi direct to carpet, brush in, leave for about 15mins, then extract, what doesn't improve in the doorways, like Tony says try spraying some solvent down & agitate that, then re extract, water must be hot then you should get a result.

Like I said the one I did was a wool/nylon 80/20 tufted twist which is alot more difficult to get a result and that came up as white as white can be (even I was shocked)!!

The key is good agitation, long dwell period followed by a hot (70 degree) extraction!!

(and all down by using less than 3 chems)
