Hi everyone hope ur all keeping busy. I have to quote for cleaning a pub 7 days a week. Its situated in a village & I think its going to be difficult to find someone but anyway I need to provide a quote.
Monday - Thursday 1.5 hrs
Friday 2 hrs
Sat 1.5 hrs
Sun 1.5 hrs

I haven't quoted many daily cleans & I'm not sure how to price for paying staff extra on holidays, do I have to work out how many days in the year are BH & charge it on to the customer. They are supplying all cleaning equip & chems.

Any ideas how much I should charge would be really appreciated we are on contract mode PLEEEEZE Help

It is very difficult to price, as it is 7 days a week all year long.We used to do a pub on a regular basis even turned out at 1am xmas eve to clean ready for xmas day. It depends how much you want the work, you already said its in a village and might be difficult to get anyone, so are you prepared to be tied down to 7 days a week?? Being a village pub if they have a quite period the cleaner will be the first to go in order to save costs, why can't they get a local from the village?? We don't get involved with pubs anymore apart from Carpet cleaning. It is a very difficult one to price..they don't charge anymore for the beer on a bank holiday!!

Your enthusiasm shines through but ask yourself why they are telling you the 'hours' they want worked (you should be telling them what you will do to meet their needs and how long it will take) particularly the 90 minute shifts following the days when they have been probably the most busy at the weekends. I have just been reading threads in the carpet cleaning section justifying charging £100 an hour and you will be lucky to get £10/ 12 hour doing this job. Fine if you want that but I would step back and really think about it. If you go for it whatever wage rate you cost into the job you will need double time for Public holidays (custom and practice) and as you or your operative will be working those days you need to build in full holiday pay which is something like 11% to be added to your normal wage control. To be a total 'Negative-Ned', it's illegal to work more than 6 days per week continually. Seriously, unless you are desparate for the work I would avoid like the plague and that's before I even go on about who is actually paying you - the brewery, the tenant (how many in the last 9 months?) so that you get paid for your graft.

Checking my post- it is late after all :-) I realise I have used jargon like 'wage control'. If you don't know what I am talking about e-mail me for a costing sheet you can use when building your prices up for a job. Wages make up 65 - 85% of every pound you charge your customers and they need to be 'controlled'

Thankyou both for taking the time to post. Phil - they told me 1 hr daily but there's no way.
We want more regular contracts but after careful thought I think this one isn't for us. Its about a 20/25min drive from me & I'm not in the position to clean early mornings as I have 5 & 6 year to get ready for school. I know for a fact I would have to cover the cleaning at some point.

Hi Barbara,

We use to do pubs. The best way we found (Im not saying it the best way) was to have 2 cleaners on site. and a total of 4 cleaners to work shifts. i.e. Saturdays and Sundays, Mon - Fri and share bank hols.

On bank holiday we paid around £8.50 per hours, £7.50 on Saturday and £7.60 on Sundays.

As Phil says, its a nightmare you are tied down 7 days a week. Thats why we no longer do that.

Thanks for your reply - I feel confident now we've done the right thing. I could see it being a big headache for us, hopefully we'll get some workable contracts soon. Once kids go back to school marketing, marketing for me
