I never loooked at it like that Derek, I always get the customer who'll say "We've wanted to get laminate for years cos our little one's got asthma!"

I explain how a carpet acts as a filter etc...

We in fact, installed laminate in all the bedrooms of our last house because my daughter suffers from asthma. Never though of getting the carpets cleaned at the time : I wasn't a C/C then though

As Paul says - I cannot see this document either - just lots of interesting machines I havnt seen before.

I often explain to clients re carpets are filters etc, and point out that hard floors are not the way to go if there are allergies or asthma in the family.

unless people become more dedicated to cleaning a hard floor will create a lot more problems with asthma and other allergies as the dead skin cells and micro-particles that get trapped within the carpet become air-born. this, as carpet cleaning professionals is something that we should be aware of and educating  people to. Hard floors have became the fashion and  specifically laminate but now the market is turning. There are still a lot of people with the misconception that hard floors are healthier. The other miscontception is that hard floors are lower maintenance. To keep a hard floor in top condition in a commercial  location is a lot more labor intensive than carpet. Obviously there are areas that are unsuitable for carpet but many applications would be better suited and easier to maintain with carpet.
Year age I read that research from sweden and denmark proved a large increase in asthma and other allergies that was put down to the replacing of carpets on a large scale. Most people with hard floors downstairs will notice that the carpet on the stairs is getting dirty a lot quicker since the removal of carpet downstairs.
