End of Tenancy - Payment
« on: June 18, 2010, 07:04:52 pm »
Just wondering how u guys go about payment from tenants who are moving out. Did EOT clean today the tenant is away on the day we finish (today) & will pay us via bank transfer tonight or monday.

It is very risky when you are providing a service for complete strangers, complete the work & they are not around to pay you it is total 100% trust. He has paid £50 deposit which we now ask for when booking.

How do you go about this?

Thanks
Barbara

I would want cash on completion for that work. A percentage will rip you off thinking it won't be worth chasing them especially if they are moving a good distance away.

Hi Barbara,

A quick question is by what means did you get this e.o.t clean? Estate Agent, referral, online enquiry?

If it was via a referral or estate agent there will generally be a way of contacting the tenant should payment be an issue. If acquired online, I do not ask for a deposit but either insist that the tenant be present to sign off the job once cleaning is finished and then pay or if for any reason they cannot be there at the end of the job then payment is to be left at the property prior to commencement of cleaning.

There is a bit of trust involved but when it comes to payment always let your tenant know your payment terms and then there can be no room for confusion or someone doing a runner without paying.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for that Mark, I will carry on with my deposit as I think that deteres people from changing their minds etc but will do exactly as you've suggested. It was via internet, I did call the letting agent whos board was up outside but they were very unhelpful said they would not pay me out of his deposit. He did pay yesterday thankfully, thanks B
