Had a very interesting chat with the underwriter at zurich who told me that it is unlikely to see premiums reduce because they have not enough data on the use of wfp.

What ths means is that they have no claims history that they can compare with those that use ladders. They are the cheapest around and they know it so it is worth going to them.

What this does emphasize is that out trade does not have  useful representation to lobby in cases like this. We dont want regualtion, but rather someone or something that will do more than just print a quarterly magazine, stickers for your van and 'who can clean the fastest' competitions. I am of course talking about the NFMWGC.

Late news

Got a cheaper quote, £10 million employers liability and £1 million public, only £468 as long as all work is done by wfp, no ladders, at last a victory for all window cleaners an insurer that is willing to listen and adapt.

Believe me this is big. My first quote was £1500, and i know wc who are paying this.

What's the company called?  That sounds very reasonable.

Employers liability insurance covers you in the event that a claim is brought against you by your staff.

Employers liability insurance is a legal requirement where you have staff.

If you are not a limited company, then staff are those people who work for you - but excluding, as well as yourself, any business partners or family members.

Labour-only subcontractors are also treated as being your staff. Labour-only subcontractors are those people working under your guidance and using your tools and equipment.

If you are a limited company with only one person (including yourself, all manual and clerical staff) and you own more than 51% of the business, then employer’s liability insurance is not required.
If you are a limited company but with only one person but you own less than 51% of the business then employer’s liability insurance is required.
If you are a limited company with more than one person then employer’s liability insurance is required.
The level of cover is provided at the standard industry level of £10m.

I have £1 million public liability with these and am covered for 1 labour only sub contractor. In their own website, they state that a labour only sub contractor is classed as an employee and so you should have employees laibilty insurance but they only cover us for public liability...?? I have asked them to clarify this, but no response yet.
