Not sure about a 40/40 but a normal R O has one inlet and two outlets, one outlet is pure and the other is the waste.

Hope that helps. :)
I can remember when waking up stiff in the morning was a good thing.

Why don't you phone up where you bought it from?
In fact, why didn't it come with instructions?

Andy:

Look at the membrane housing.  One end has a single opening in the centre, that is the water inlet - the pipe from the prefilters goes on here.  The other end has two openings.  The one in the middle of the housing is the pure water outlet, the one nearer the edge is the waste water outlet.  There should also be some sort of control in the waste water pipe so you can adjust the ratio of waste to pure

Who's make is it?  RO-man, Purefreedom, Gaps etc are all pretty much the same.  There are two pre-filter housings which have the sediment filter in one and the carbon block (chlorine remover) in the other these each have two threaded ports in the caps.  Raw water comes in to the sediment filter first (the direction of flow is marked on the cap) This housing is connected directly to the CCB (coconut carbon block) prefilter housing with a double ended threaded connector.  The water comes out of the CCB and then into the end of the membrane housing (the big cylinder - 40 inches long) where there is only one port.  At the other end of the membrane housing are two ports and the water comes out of these.  The one in the middle of the housing is the pure water and the one nearer the edge is the waste.

All you need is the pipe and fittings to join it all up.
