Start up Nerves
« on: May 09, 2010, 04:05:23 pm »
I have been planning to start a window cleaning round for a few months.
After being in out of work in the print for the past year, with the future of print not looking very good.

I wanted to do something where I can have a bit of stabilty and job security to a certain extent.

I have been waiting for my mrs to go on maternity leave which will be in just over a month.

I am currently looking after my other daughter and getting the odd shift in the print.

Now that the time is getting close to actually starting I am having a few doubts :-\ as is my wife.

Can I get enough Work?  Is there  enough work out there?

Will I be able to work for myself and deal with any problems that may arise like - customer trouble
Problems with equipment and actually doing the cleaning.

I was wondering if any one else had these sort of worrys when they started out.

Sorry to go on.

I'm just about to start a round up, as I'm getting asked all the time in my area if i know a window cleaner...Never done it before, but have dealt with customers which isn't a problem...Just take your time, always be polite and look clean and tidy and your be fine. Good luck.

th77, with a young child and another on the way, you're right to be having second thoughts.  Can you not continue doing what you're doing at present and build up a window cleaning round around that?  Or find some sort of work that has a shift pattern that will allow you to start window cleaning around that?

Some of the guys will make it sound easy, but starting from scratch isn't, and I know quite a few guys who've started window cleaning, found it too difficult and just jacked it in, and one of these guys was a fit, motivated, hard working guy who left a secure job as the head Gardiner for the Celtic Manor hotel (Wales's first five star hotel and golf course).  He must've put his young family through a lot of turmoil.

But it's your shout at the end of the day.

Youve got a young family this should motivate you, Ive got a family too, when I 1st started I had a job, my boss was a bit funny with me setting up, think a jealous thing, I walked out on my job due to the boss with only a £300 a month round, I canvassed every night till I had enough work to cover the bills etc, sometimes I canvassed with the family in the car.....

Thanks for the advice guys.
Tosh , I will be free to put in as much time as I can when my wife stops work.
She runs a dance school, and will still be bringing money in.
Also have a bit of money put to the side, so paying the bills wont be a problem.
I was going to start wfp, so was more concerned by purchasing all the equipment and then it not working out and being stuck with it.
Alan, thanks for the offer. I might give you a call in the next few weeks and come out with you for the day if that is ok.
