Roof of the van inside is freezing already. -2 predicted all night. I've found a greenhouse heater in the garage and have put that in the back. Never used it before. If it's crap I'll revert to the oil filled radiator.

I was thinking today; it would be a good idea to book in less work a day during the winter. Doesn't happen like that though does it.

The trick for me is organising my work into short days all year round so my days are pretty even no matter what time of year.

Cold weather?oh well only 5 hours to do.

Hot weather? Oh well only 5 hours to do.

getting dark early in winter?oh well only 5 hours cleaning to do.

Wet weather?oh well only 5 hours to do

If you can average £50-£60 an hour then that's still at least a grand a week for 4 short days then you have a nice 3 day weekend to look forward to....

This is how I work my round throughout the 4 seasons

What's wrong with the oil filled radiator? If it does the job then it does the job....

Keep it simple

Thank-you all for taking the time to respond.
I was only asking the question as the way its worded on Ionics website appears to suggest that you can heat pre-heat to aid with the prevention of frost damage when the temperature drops (perhaps, so i thought, with an inbuilt immersion).
It really is a fantastic bit of kit but unfortunately does not have a 'frost stat' to prevent any damage in sub zero temperatures and can't understand why Ionics have produced a state of the art system IMHO but you have to pop a £20 radiator, or similar, in the back to protect it from damage!

Personally I prefer to put an oil filled radiator in the back than relying  on the frost stat...

The problem with the frost stat is it's fairly loud and can come on 3 or 4 times in the night using fuel and electric. Mine used to wake me up(and the neighbours sometimes)...

Getting stuck in and working much faster for ten minutes soon warms you up.

Two pairs of socks and wellies on icy/wet grass yesterday on my first job (one hour) starting at daybreak - large barn conversion in a field.

But then ... I'm 65.

Young'uns today.  ;D

Or if its really cold, wear 2 pairs of socks.

If you can make your working life a bit more pleasurable then you can get more cleans done, that's what I have found out. Hard to get motivated when its cold, wet or windy so anything that makes life a bit easier then all for it.

90% of the time I cant get on the drive. I have to reel out a load of slack on the reel hose to start as it gets stuck if I just pull. I'm often working around two cars on the drive but I'm so used to it now that it doesn't bother me.

I hate jobs involving getting the ladder off for flat roofs but I just charge extra. In the grand scheme of things I haven't got that many ladder jobs anyway.

What I wont do anymore is go through back gates or through the house.

We are always refining.

If you hate ladders jobs why don't  you get rid of them? or just say you don't use ladders anymore and reduce the price and skip them windows?

I did this last year and I should of done it years ago!I only had to drop 3 jobs!the other 8 jobs kept me on but at a reduced price.

Now I haven't got a single job that requires ladders for flat roofs!👍😎

It's liberating! Even more so in this freezing weather!

Remember it only takes one slip!(think of slacky). Its not worth it mate.

Hate was  probably too strong a word, more an irritation. And thinking about it I do have quite a few. So I was talking nonsense before. I do one or two a day so getting rid of all of them isn't feasible financially. At least none of them are dodgy although I agree it's always a risk.
