Window Cleaning Forum / Re: Price rise time
« Last post by NBwcs on Today at 02:09:09 pm »
It's being called "awful April", energy, water, council tax, car tax, and TV licence all going up, plus others no doubt, all of which already being shoved down our throats on TV this morning. Be interesting to see if anyone here gets a knock on effect with window cleaning. I'm putting mine up this year and usually do  it in April but will hold off for a month till the headlines have died down.

Edit, forgot stamp duty and broadband too.

It's typical BBC...doom and gloom!trying to keep people in fear!

All the more reason to put prices up....don't put it off! Notify them this clean that their price will go up from next clean

Remember pensioners get a £32 a month rise this month if they get the full state pension. You deserve a rise too!🙂👍

I do indeed deserve a wage rise....... Still gonna wait a month to let the dust hopefully settle a bit. Our media just loves scaremainering, giving a situation a name, an identity ie "awful April" just  like they do with storms makes them feel so much more in your face than merely reporting the facts,  The flip side being people will understand more why  prices are going up, just hoping to avoid any snap decisions from custys whilst it's  being rammed in their faces  every where they look.

If it was for a customer of mine already, an hour and a half work. Using 200 litres I would charge 2 hours and just took £100 to £120.  If they asked why I'm charging 2 hours, I'd explain I'm now going to run out of water, so I have to nip home and refill.

As long as he pays the bill on time I shouldn't worry about it

Anyone recommend a ramp for getting a Honda GX390 in and out of a Custom Limited van. Preferably something that doesn't cost as much as the pressure washer itself :)

Thanks for the feedback. I used them for the first time today, and I really liked them! So easy to connect and disconnect (yes I know, that’s the whole point!).

A little bit scuffed from being dragged around, but only time will tell how long they last. I’m considering wrapping them radiator hose to protect them.

A more pressing concern is that if one were to break while I’m out working, the chances of me being able to get the pole hose over that barb (without a cup of boiling water to sit the end in first) are probably nil.

I think it's the outer casing that would break first and would be because you stood on it which is easily done. It's this out casing or shell that will wear thin over time.

I do carry a couple of spare ones on the van. A cigarette lighter could be the best option to warm up plastic pipe if you are out and about.
I have used the hot air from my diesel heater's exhaust before.

I also purchased a few o rings but have never needed to replace one yet.

I keep a spreadsheet of exactly how long customers have had the same price, and how much inflation there should have been in that time. (Inflation figures are available on the government’s website).

I review it at the end of every month, so there’s always a few going up each month.

My rule is this: any customer who’s had the same price for more than 18 months is a candidate for an increase. If the inflation rate in that time adds up to at least 90p, then they get £1 increase.

If it’s a bigger job, and inflation adds up to more than £1 then they get the inflationary increase rounded UP to the nearest £1.

In my opinion, if you’re having to increase any price by 25%, then you’ve left it too many years without increasing.

Cleaned 100 ground mounted solar panels for a customer today and he isn’t happy with what I charged. They are set up in rows ranging from 8 to 12
I do his house 4 weekly, massive bungalow in a rural setting, it’s a 1 million pound house, I know this because it was featured on a channel 4 programme about 9 months ago, so as you can imagine 1 million gets you a lot of house in this particular area. I text ahead so he knows I’m going through the security gates and he text back asking if I can clean the solar panels when I’m there. I’m thinking the panels were dirtier than roof mounted ones as they are more exposed to the dust off neighbouring land.
What would you have charged? It took me an hour and a half of hard scrubbing, working at a brisk pace, I used 200 litres of pure.
