Title: The Adventures of a Scudo 800 L System
Post by: Clive McDonald on March 12, 2010, 09:14:06 pm
After three years of DIY, first with a trailer and 400l, and then with a van, yesterday i took the plunge and had my first proper professional tank instalation.
The features are.
Two roof mounted, electrically driven cox reels exiting the side doors.

An on demand hot system

800 litre skid mounted tank

A back to tank bypass on each reel feed (the benefits are i can take pressure out of hose system at night, i can fix and diagnose problems without turning on pole taps, i can defreeze frozen reels in morning by repeated shunting hot water in and then depressuring) So two ports on the top of the tank take these tapped bypass'.

Two tapped outlets on the bottom of the tank. One outlet feeds two operators, but the second outlet allows for a third operator should this arise.

My conclusion is I should have bought a pro system three years ago.

You got a heater too, plus you, fuel, poles and hose reel etc?
I'm pretty sure scudo's only have a payload of 900-1000kg

Yesterday? It's still early days to be patting yourself too much on the back clive.  ;D
But you are one of the posters on here whose opinions i have faith in, so you could well be right?
How much and where from did you get this installation? A rough price will do if you intimidated the people into a discount and don't want to say.  :)
And have you taken some photos yet? It would be nice to have a look at it.
The description does sound good though. Even the electric reels are sounding more appealing.

I've already had one detailed post deleted mark- it may have been because i mentioned who did the installation.
The aim was to get the largest system possible into a small van. A van that is aimed at domestic, can park easily on customers drives, can attack the glass in under fifteen seconds of stopping the engine, and wind in in even less.

I paid more than the quoted price because they did so many mods. This is an exhibition piece and should be on a plinth at windex, it's the batmobile of window cleaning.

The cost was 1500(inc vat), but they used my bits (not the tank obviously).

If this forum allows pictures again i will put some up, the space created is unbelievable.

The system you discribe sounds exactly like mine.

Dispatch van, 800l custom made tank, 2 cox reels, 2 on demand heaters, LPG refillable gas tank.

Sound really pro.

Cheers.

Hmmph. I've only one heater, but it's the proper job and the tank is not custom made, but it does have it's own chasis which helps with the integrity of the vehicle as sub frames are the norm these days.My van is not speed lined either, but nearly all of the floor space is clear.

I thought you were joking. Thats excellent.

Point one i notice you do have proper heaters (what are they?).
Point two i notice you have one of them gas tanks you fill up at a garage
Point three you have the blue cox mine are yellow and obvioulsy in the roof near the side doors.  (this was because of conversion)
Point four they have installed a metal floor which gives integrity

I forgot to say in the orignal post they also installed racking in mine to get a 2.4m ladder in the roof as well as poles.

I'll have to keep an eye on you. How long have you had this system?

Just seen you did it yourself, very impressive.

Hi Matt, its a gaslow refillable LPG, the same as David Slaters.

The heaters are L5s from USA.

hi Slump, the battery connecters are from maplins, about twelve pound a pair.

cheers.

The L5 heater is currently undergoing the certification process for the CE mark,... and John has taken my suggestions onboard & by next winter (all going to plan) be supplying a version of the heater specifically for WFP with a UK gas regulator in the box, and the heater factory modified to run consistently at a 1lpm flow rate. :)

Hi Daz, only use 800ltr a couple of days a month. ( 2 people )

On average about 600 ltr a day.

The payload is 1200kg, so when tanks full the weight had 120kg to spare, took it to weighbridge
first day that I fitted system.

cheers.

Hi everyone, just a general moan first about the poor and ill informed replies on this thread.

I was very surprised that brad had beaten me to the punch on this, and all credit to him because he's done a great job.

I was interested in nathaneals comments, the issue being a flow rate of 1litre pm, instead of two. This is the reason i have one heater supplying two reels instead of one for each and also the reason mine is a rinnai eu54.

Comparing brads system with mine he has spreadout flat tanks which give a very low centre of gravity, which is good. Mine is a lot higher but gives a very large amount of clear floor space in the van.

He has two heaters so is able to push as opposed to suck the water through, which tends to give fewer faults.

On my van three stage ladders (broken two bits, and one bit) fit in the roof.

My reels exit the side doors while his exit the rear.I believe mine is better here because i have the option of a third reel and pump at the back door.

My system also has bypass returns which is also an advantage.

Brad's system is sprinkled with a lot of clever ideas and i'd give him ten out of ten.

Just read ste m's reply and i agree.

Cheers Clive
