We have several lines now. For local areas such as 01 numbers and 0845 and 0843 numbers. The only one we do not have is an 0800 number.
I just wondered if any of you find that if you have an 0800 number if your sales increased.
Cheers

people with mobiles get charged, so it not free if you use a mobile

I did try an 0800 number several years back and gave it up after 12 months we did have a lot more people calling up wasting time and also a couple of hoax appointments made. Something I had not experienced before or have n`t since.
People that have nothing better to do will needlessly waste your time.

0800's can have positive and negative results. Yes people ask if your local, but only new client's, existing client's already know. 0800's also appeal to those who have tried a local "cowboy" and don't want them back. They can (I'm not suggesting they do) give the impression of a larger business, especially if you also use an answering service (NOT AN ANSWER PHONE).
-
In my neck of the woods local numbers attract far more business than Freephone numbers. Also most people now call us from their mobile and an 0800 number could cost them 40p per minute.

Hi Dave
Which company do you use for your local codes

I have had my 0800 number for 6 years now.
Its not cheap - but it works! customers can contact me 24/7 and the phone is answered professionally.
Costs £3 per call on average - but I reckon it more than pays for itself in new orders gained.
However - I think 0845 would work too - its just that too many customers now have my 0800 number - and so am reluctant to change!
hope this helps.
-
Neil I bought an 0800 for 125 + VAT one off fee 1000mins per month free for life.

I get on average 30 calls per month to my 0800 numbers. Costs £6 per month.
People dont like 0845 numbers as they are expensive to call, and doesnt the recipient get a slice?
Dave.
-
we just taken out a free phone number which is 0808 as not many 0800 numbers lets and we could get better number. We have not yet marketed the new number very widely so cannot comment whether it's better or not in terms of getting domestic customers but it's for sure works much better for commercial customers, thats what we have been told by other friends who are in same indusrty as us. but like many have said it is much more expensive than normal land line, and to be fair we did survery to our customers regarding land line or mobile and many said that mobile was much more convinient for them, i was very surprised by this responce as i have posted a thread on here and many people said the opposite so may be after all we are (the traiders) think different to our customers and mobile numbers are not as bad as we think.

would be free if they take away the 0 at the start of the number.

Hi tony
is what you're saying that from a mobile phone u just dial 800 instead of 0800 and the call is free?
Dave
-
yip.
800...... instead of 0800.....
Infact, if you dial 0800.... from a mobile, you get a voice telling you to take out the 0 to make it free.
Thanks
Tony
-
Sorry thats not right. They tell you to redial without the first zero because you cant dial an 0800 number in its full context from a mobile. You can dial the number you are after without the first zero, but it is not free, it costs you.
Dave.
-
Doesn't cost me Dave. I call my "main" suppliar on his 0800 without the first 0 from my mobile many times and its free for me. I'm on a pay as you go o2.

Over the last few weeks i've been bombarded with companies trying to sell me 0800 numbers - some of the deals seemed great - really worthwhile. However, i've always stuck to local landline numbers - best i thought to create local appearance, but i've often wondered if 0800 was the way to go.
With all these companies ringing - i wondered if something was happening with the 0800's so i did some digging!!
Basically - research now tells us that (for the first time ever) in 2010 more calls will be made from mobile phones than from landlines That means if you are calling from a mobile phone (unless you have a special tariff) a call to an 0800 number isnt free, meaning more people will actually have to pay for that call and so may possibly be put off from calling it instead of being turned onto calling it!! This may mean 0800's may actually now start being a disadvantage!!!!!
However - the new 03's are different - they replace the 0870 numbers but are much better. If you call 03 from a mobile and you have free minutes in your tariff - it will just use some free minutes - not bill you separately like an 0800. Also if you have free landline calls at home - then 03 is free again!! Click on this link to see the charges explained better -
http://blog.moneysavingexpert.com/2009/03/03/loan-shark-hotline-hoorah-its-not-a-freephone/
So basically - if you get offerred an 0800 deal for cheap as chips - consider your options carefully - it may not be as advantageous as its made out now. For you guys who have 0800's - it may give food for thought if you only advertise that one number and divert it on to your other numbers - maybe best to advertise other numbers as well just in case.
Hope that makes sense and maybe helps out!!

Message from Global Communication Solutions Ltd...Thankyou very much to those who have taken the time to state how happy they are with our services, We are indeed able to supply small/large companies with their own freephone 0800 number or geographical number ie:01621 0208, with a free divert through to any landline or mobile phone in the uk. We will also cover the inbound call costs of 1000 minutes every month for life (minute usage is based on per second) resulting in no billing or costs to your current mobile or landline bills.
The number belongs to you for life...
There are NO monthly bills, NO monthly line rental, NO yearly charges!!
Just a simple one off payment!!!
If you request for the number to be diverted to a different number, simply contact the office during office hours and the divert will automatically change within ten minutes, (you can do this as many times as you wish at NO additional cost) just have your reciept number to hand that we send out to you first class in the post along with your reciept of purchase.
Your 0800 or geographical number has an instant connection allowing your number to be used immediately
If you know of anyone who is interested in a 0800/0845/Geographical Number, Please contact 01245410105 and ask for Sophie Barker or email sophie.work@hotmail.co.uk , You will then recieve the same deal as other members on this forum. I have many happy customers who have experienced a higher call volume of enquiries due to the fact they advertise a free method of contact, Please take these benefits into consideration for your own business, Hope this helps. Many thanks

funny how things can sound so great but with a little research can actually turn out not so good........

I can assure you sir every one of my personal customers are very happy with the product they have purchased from myself.. As you can see previous posts saying that they are happy with their deal...I simply contacted you in a very polite way this morning simply to ask if this 'research' you have done applys to you only?? Reason being I do not want my customers made to feel they have may have made a wrong decision trying out a freephone number for their business because of your opinion. I was very polite to you on the phone, and I am sure customers of mine on this forum will agree with the fact I am a very polite, friendly lady and was very shocked and upset when I was told by you 'to get a life' and 'I am pathetic'!! I earn a very honest living sir, I was simply interested in your thoughts and feelings on the product. The companies I deal with contact me on a regular basis either for a chat or to say thankyou as I have in fact helped their business with enquiries and extra calls. You then shouted at me over the telephone saying that 'I should not be selling my products on here'... I am not! Individuals had already commented on the fact that global comms are helpful and do great deals on 0800's and geographical numbers, I was just confirming and supplying a bit more information on how we work as a company. Customers had already purchased numbers from me before I had even heard of this forum, I was advised to go on here becuase some people were interested in the services I have to offer and would like to know some more about us... I was trying to help! I may be wrong but I thought the idea of this forum is to help other businesses progress and supply them with information they may require. Many thanks

Hi Global,
We have purchased an 0800 very recently. Not from yourselves. We also have other numbers as well. There are many reasons for, and against.
New Look Clean has a very good point in his research post and I think it is truthful.
You as business will look at it differently as you want to sell these numbers and make a profit.
The buyer will either go for it or look somewhere else. Now we have several numbers geographical, Non geographical and now 0800. I will keep my other numbers advertised for the reasons New LOook Clean as stated. But I already new what he had posted. But others may not have done. So Good Post New Look.
Global you have had some reponce from people purchasing on here and just because of that I am sure others will follow to buy from you. My post was meant to be the for and against. Which is good but I thik there are better deals out there and should this forum now be about "Dealers" advertising. That is not the aim in my opinion.
Also the research New Look Clean has done does not just apply to him. If you look at the link he has provided some one else has provided the information. Which is also correct.

Hi Dave,
I agree with you, there are positives and negatives with 0800's along with 0845, 0300 and even geographicals. I know I may sell these products but I do understand the advantages and also the disadvantages, but I have passion in what I sell only because of the feed back I have recieved from my customers.
Its great that you use a wide variety of contact methods, I think thats a great idea!
I also agree with certain points that 'new look' has mentioned ie: keeping other numbers advertised. I think that gives the customer more choice and option.
It is true that the buyer will either go for it or look somewhere else. I do not believe in pressure sales, never have! If I was giving the spill of 'promomtions' or 'come buy them now their going to run out', then fair enough, but I personally do not think that is the correct way to work, maybe that is why I am successful in this line of work. My customers on this forum all contacted me to purchase numbers, the only one time I contacted an individual on here was becuase I was interested in their feedback, I am always open to opinions.
Thinking back on what was said to me from this individual, I should not have made the phone call to him in the first place, But I really enjoy my work and find opinions on my products very interesting. But unfortunately came away from the phone call very offended.
If you have found a better deal out there please do let me know Dave because I have been in this trade for years and I have not found a deal that my customers would rather take on. It would be interesting to know of other deals especially if you believe they are better.
I do not believe this forum is for dealers to advertise, I simply came onto this page only beacause it was relevant to the telecom industry, and I actually thought it may help out the topic of discussion, I am open to any questions not just about the products that Global comms supply but how my customers have found them, the positive and negatives to all number types, and what numbers suit specific trades better.
I was simply offering help

Hi Colin Day,
I would like to say thankyou for your feedback on our product.
Alot of my customers are spending a small fortune on advertisement each month, and sometimes find it a complete waste of money and do not recieve one call from it.
I believe that is also why 0800 freephone numbers are purchased more nowdays, they are cheap enough and pay for themselves within the first few jobs that come through on them.
They have been known to enhance advertisement for some of my clients.
Thankyou
Sophie

Global
To be honest I am surprised your posts are still on here. Didnt 3 get deleted yesterday - all the same posts at that.
You are a supplier and you are selling your goods, thats what I think.
Other suppliers do not do it.
Its one thing having carpet cleaners recommending this product or that service, but for the supplier/provider to come on - well, as I say - suprised posts are lasting.
Think it may be the time of year and the moderators are busy working, either that or the rules have changed on the forum.
-
Thanks for the support guys and Global you have shown yourself in your true colours. I have had to work from my van all day, unlike you i am unable to get straight onto the forum after our conversation and paint the other party black like you have.
Truth is, you didnt like the post i made AND THEN YOU TOOK IT UPON YOURSELF TO GET MY CONTACT DETAILS AND CALL ME THIS MORNING HAVING A GO AT ME AS YOU THOUGHT IT MAY LOSE YOU BUSINESS. I am sorry, but that is pathetic and very unbusiness like, we are entitled to our opinions and thats what the forum is for - we go on and put our opinions down in writing so we have to stand by our comments, we dont hide behind a phone and then deny all knowledge of the disgraceful way we spoke to someone like you have!!! My post was factual, 0800 numbers need careful thought at the moment before buying and i dont want my fellow cleaners being lead down the wrong path with all the 'marketing' for a better word you guys do over the phone when pestering us when we are trying to do our jobs. I dont want to speak to you, never have never will, so dont ever ring me again. As far as i am aware you get your numbers from TTNC (www.ttnc.co.uk) so better deals can be found just going to them direct anyway and then instead of renting a number, the customer owns it to prevent any problems in the future if you want to change contracts etc.
And what are you doing on this forum any way? do you have permission to be soliciting for business which, even though you deny it, is exactly what you are doing. In my opinion you have shown exactly why people SHOULDNT use you, your posts have been reported and if the forum has any sense it will delete you so US CLEANERS can use OUR forum without being hassled at night by you sorts of companies as well as in the day!!!!
-
Joe Hattton
It Was myself that deleted the posts, Reason being I had hit the post button too much, so I deleted it as I obviously only need one on here. There was nothing else to that other than my own mistake.
May I ask why you are suprised I am still on the forum?? I am not doing yourself any harm, I am answering questions and offering advice to companies who are unsure or interested in 0800,0845 or geographical numbers.
Most importantly there is no pressure involved here, And The only time that products are sold is when somebody calls me wanting to take a number on themselves. I do not tell them to do this sir! The recommendations speak for themselves..as a business man I am sure you undertand how important word of mouth is.. Im sure you advertise your company in many places to offer your services Joe.. I am simply doing the same. If you do not want them that is fair enough.
There is nothing wrong with my customers recomending me on this forum, They are happy with their new purchase and can share this information if they please! Again.. I do not ask them to do this they are simply offering other individuals on this forum advice! that IS what this forum is used for!
Alot of tradesman advertise in local newspapers for example, I may not be needing a tradesman at the time or their services but I still purchase that newspaper.. because it contains other information I may require!! The point I am trying to make Joe is the adverts for tradesman and services do not bother me, as they may help other people! My information on this forum and the services that I am offering are helping certain (not all) individuals on here! Nothing wrong with that.
Many thanks
Sophie

Sophie
It was only my opinion, I am not the sponsor who pays for this forum (see top of this page), nor do I make the rules.
All I know is that there are other suppliers who make comments about technical things generally relating to carpet cleaning, but dont promote the goods they supply.
As I say, Sophie, it is only my opinion and based on what has been said/done in the past.
Who knows what will happen.
-
I've got an 0800 number, paid £6 for it and I get charged 2p per minute for each call... I can cancel it any time on line if it's rubbish, so what the hey, well worth the punt I say.... ;)
-
Some people on here certainly seem to recommend the service offered.
Not sure this is the best place for a Salespersons rant though, or anywhere for that matter. You can never win an arguement. A short response then go away would be the best damage limitation.
Like policeman, the moderators are never around when you want one. Unless you put up a link to another forum of course. ;)
-
Admin just emailed me, Global should now have a posting ban!!!!!
Why they cant see why they are in the wrong baffles me - like i say - if you want to deal with a Co with an attitude like that then go for it!!!! May find if you have any problems though, that stinky attitude may shine through again!!! But as others have said, its only my opinion, but i take as i find............
-
you are right about companies coming on here selling their services, its not aloud unless they pay.
I saw Globals post on another section and edited out all the self promotion and left what was good information about 0800 numbers. I didn't notice this thread or would have done the same here.
I tend to let companies like this go because they never last long as they have no real interest on what this forum is about ---CLEANING--- they just want to sell want they do, which they will often disguise as 'helpful information'
lets see how it goes
-
£125 one off fee 1000 free mins p/m attached to my mobile, hardly the gamble of the century.
Divert my land line to the 0800 number don't advertise the 0800.

Exactly why I got one ,,, It is a guaranteed winner
-
thats great Mark, but thing is people need to be able to consider the 0800, these sorts of companies sell them in a way that make some less savvy clients think they are the THE way to go without considering that due to the huge amount of calls made from mobiles nowadays, that just advertising an 0800 isnt the best option.
if you can get a deal after all things considered that works and is affordable - great, but lets not encourage these type of people onto our forum's, its just not going to be an unbiased opinion that they give
-
Agree mate ;) just explaining why I bought one.

ok fella, glad it works well for you, sounds like a good plan!! :)
