Title: Meet Dave
Post by: Dave Whittaker on October 25, 2009, 05:14:58 pm
Hi Folks...

Just a quick message to introduce myself. I've been lurking with intent on the forum for a couple of months while being in the process of starting a CC company which covers the Kent area. I've been carpet fitting since 1997 and cleaning the odd carpet since 2004.

This seems to be the best carpet cleaners forum by far.....even if it does get a bit bitchy from time to time ::)
The knowledge here has helped me make decisions on equipment and marketing etc so I'd like to thank you guys for the informative posts.

I'll start optimising my site sometime during the week so if anybody is up for exchanging links just drop me an email - david@gospotless.co.uk

Thanks for reading guys

Thanks for the welcomes ladies and gents.

I wont pretend I don't know who you are Sweeney!! I've done my research mate.

Thanks for the mature approach to competition.....I spend quite alot of time in Thanet so maybe a pint at some stage?

Hi Dave

Like a pint myself so would be happy to meet. As for maturity, I have always found that working with rather than against works better on many counts. There are a small minority of us in this part of the world that think like this so even happy to swap links when your site is seo'd. Don't mix with that Derek Walker from Deal though, he looks like one of the village people and plays ping pong in his spare time. Weird.  ;D

Lets catch up, I must be due a shrinkage anyway so it would be good to have someone nearby who can fix it ;D

Without advice from the guys on here when I was starting I probably wouldn't be in business, so a big thanks from me, too.

Well done Pete

I can never understand why more CCs don't network, the daggers I get when driving past some local competition if I put my hand up  ???

Paul - I might move to Kent !

Thanks for that little observation vacman.

Was told I resembled Simon Pegg in the pub on Fri...so I shall accept Dermot as a step up ::)

That's the nice thing about being friendly with local competition.......

You can pass you loonie clients on to your competitiors. Mind you, your competitiors then often pass them back.

Don't we Clinton? ;D

Just jesting. It's always a help to have somebody who you can meet up with for a pint and have a natter face to face with about problems we all understand. Talking is so much quicker than typing.

BTW - welcome Dave.

is carpet fitting not a good earner then? or is it just time for a change, i'm not having a dig just that whenever i've had carpets fitted the guys are in and out in no time with the readies in their sweaty hands, i've always thought you could get a good living from it,

Colin

Fitting is a "good earner" if you are supplying the carpet and ancillaries - if you are just getting a labour charge then it's hard graft.

I've been supplying and fitting for 27 years and I'm pleased to say that the cleaning is now, at last, taking up far more of my time than the fitting. I won't be sorry when I don't have to fit any more - it's a young mans game.

all clear now, i can see the pitfall in being on your knees all day kicking a carpet into the grippers, ok when you're 25 but not when your over 35!!!  on the same line i know a guy who strips and re-seals hard floors all day, he is very busy but i wonder how long he can keep doing a job like that, it must take it out of your knees and joints?
