hi all,
i cleaned a very dirty wool carpet the other day (hwe) and had a phone call back the next day saying it smells of "rotten cabbage" and still a bit damp. i had to go over it quite a few times which explains the dampness but has anyone heard of this smell. i know of farms (sheep) but not cabbage lol. i says it will just go once its dryed fully.
anyone heard of this

no lol hows the advance going coz am still with the extracta but the write up sounds good. am right saying you have it. still like to know about the cabbage lol

Hello mate, I do indeed have the Advance and I love it. It looks too good to use though, and when kids come near it with their grubby hands, I snarl at them ;D!
I have noticed a huge improvement in how quick the jobs gets done thanks to the extra psi and increased airflow and the ease of using a wand. The Exel coupled with the Scrubba is still a brilliant set up and I always got excellent results with it. It's just took me ages, as you know yourself the passes are quite slow as are the dry passes.
Anyway, I've found the link (I think) for you to peruse. Joe has a lot of useful information as do a few others.

i've never really used a wand (got a sh*t 1 of extracta) so always used the scrubba which is very good but very heavy (like it all). have you kept the scrubba with your set up? and do you think this is good with any porty?

Yeah it will work with any porty as long as the psi's around 100/135 (From experience...) The extra airlow left carpets almost bone dry with the Scrubba.
I had to let it go though when I sold my machine as the buyer was only interested in the whole set up.... I was quite gutted really!

aye am sure i remember reading that you would keep the scrubba with any other machine ya got but if thats better whats the point
its the only machine i've used but think the attachment (scrubba) is excellent, do you think its better then a wand coz a couldn't imagine getting the same results from a wand with a porty.

Some people confuse the smell of wet wool, most compare it to damp dog but I've heard of others not cabbage though ;D.
Give a wand a try you might be plesantly surprised.

I know exactly where you're coming from, but the extra oomph and 4 jets is really effective. Obviously you need to pre spray and agitate, where as the scrubba agitates for you!
It took a bit of getting used to, but I am converted now :)!
Shame your're not close by, I'd have let you have a go!!!!!

scrubba or wand thats got nothing to do with the smell, its the carpet thats bein cleaned, they all get cleaned the same way i don't use cabbage juice for cleaning by the way ;)

What I was trying to say was that some custys confuse the smell of wet wool for different things (like cabbage).
The smell will go when the carpets dry.
Try using a deodoriser when cleaning, gives you some time to get out before the bad amell kicks in (always better to warn them before though) ;D

yeah i know already should be dry but had to go over it lots coz it was filth. was going to mask it over with flo++san (whats it called colin) but thought it would be dry quicker.

Cabbage,wet dog, sheep you nearly allways get that foisty smell with wool carpets
Try a wand with de odouriser also warning the customer up front of the after smell
However it will allways go away when dry be honest with the customer
No come back =no return visit

I've come across rugs where the latex in the backing gives of a nasty smell following cleaning and which doesn't go even once it's dry.
Was there any latex in the backing of the carpet? If so you may just have a worse problem than you thought. Not trying to get you worried but just trying to be helpful in advance of the customer coming back to you at a later date.
