Title: Leaflets
Post by: Platinum NW on August 11, 2009, 10:41:26 pm
After posting 100 leaflets how many replies would you expect ? I found i cover an estate much faster with leaflets than knocking.

Estates are the easier prey of all - i bet you'll find more than 5 window cleaners in the area already..

in response to your question, i reckon you'll be lucky if you get one call from 100 flyers.

very hard to say this days.it depends really on the area.i delivered myself about 2000-3000 lately and had just 1 call.i did another 600-700 today but i saw 3-5 vans in the area and i don't think i'll get much response .very hard days.

How do you get work then ?
What areas do you look for ?
When i got work previously i just came across an estate and canvassed it and built it up slowly over 8-12 months

Do exactly the same, as you did with the round, that you sold for 30K....... shouldn't be a problem

i'm now looking for new areas.where i didn't use to advertise .it's only been like this for the last few months the previous years has been alllright .use to get 10-12 calls per drop .but the days has changed many window cleaners lately and especially the summer boys.some of my customers said someone door knocked and offered do the whole house for £5 and i charge them £10.

I wanted to get work alot quicker
Think the best bet is to price low - Offer a 50% discount for the first clean then put the prices up after a few months

What we do is, run our window cleaning business and not try to run a construction business at the same time, then we take the 30K from the window cleaning business we've sold and go to Spain for the winter ;D

Leaflet drops on there own are not much good where I am. You would have to drop tens of thousands to get a good responce, go out and knock if you want a round

I would have thought Kocking first, then leave a leaflet if there is no reply, and make a note to return later and refer to the leaflet.

Leaflets are said to have a 1% response rate.  BUT, if you're marketing a service that is already saturated (ie- in that area most have someone who does a round there) then that response is going to drop significantly to around 0.

We have a quality guy here. Thick ain't the word.
So your going to go onto estates, undercut the crrent guys and then bang the prices up?
Under cuttintg does not make you friends in any business. ( I know we are not your real friends but you are asking for help.) Also to bang up your price's up you will lose the work you have robbed from the guy's you are asking for help from.
Good luck

the trick with flyering estates is that you have to keep at it like drop 8+ times in the year - people will go for anyone until the realise their window cleaner has gone AWOL.

As they keep seeing your flyer then get the idea you are regular. People also get flyer blindness, and just bin flyers without even looking at them.

A lot of people just forget to call, so get reminded to call when you flyer again - i do have one customer who kept forgetting even thou i dropped 6 flyers!! It was only when i saw them washing their car one Saturday afternoon we got chatting!

So if you can - go door knocking! If your too busy then get someone to do it for you.

If your like me, and dont like to door knock and prefer to flyer, then stick with that. But it will be a lot slower intake - although more expensive on flyers.

However, I have found in my experience that the most reliable customers i have are all by flyering, because they have made the effort to actually phone and arrange it - the ones i door knocked have been un reliable and just "go with it" perhaps cos i do next door or something.

Oh and BTW i have never said go in low and put prices up. Someone has obviously mis-read my original post  ::)

That's worrying if that's how you operate. I'm based not far at all from you.  You live on Windle Hall Drive don't you ?  Is this you I've just found on Yell.com down the road from me - Platinum Exterior Cleaning Window Cleaners
Tel: 07835 894874| 125, Windle Hall Drive, St. Helens, Merseyside WA10 6QA   Or is that someone else ?

If you're planning on undercuitting me and stealing my business then at least I know where to look.  I also run a local handyman/building maintenance service, my website is in my signature.  What is your construction company called ?

Ahh I was worried when you said you'd undercut other businesses to take work, but that's what an entrepreneur essentially is - "entering and taking".
I'm in St.Helens, and just started window cleaning, so only have a few shops on my books, and in the next few days will be trying to canvas domestic customers.
