Every float valve I've seen in a flat tank so far stops the water filling well before the tank is full, there's 3 or 4" of air left in the top, which is prob nearly 100 litres lost!
Is there any kind of float valve or switch that works better in flat tanks, letting it fill right to the top,... but not any further?!
Post a link please if you know of one!

not sure what they looked like but the one I had in my ionics 300L tank was screwed through the top of the tank as opposed to the side and let the tank fill right to the top. Have you tried the suppliers??

Varitech do one. Item PFS2. Costs £13.30.
Tel: 01626 830830
It is an electrical float switch, not a water float switch.

a level switch and solenoid valve would work much better.
